“I love crepes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

This place has fallen in and out of favour with us over the years but basically we go for the crepes.
It can be noisy and you can come out stinking of vegetable grease and the coffee isn't that tasty but this place is part of Aberdeen now; an aberdeen insitiution and if it went it would leave a hole. I love the changing art, the fact there is shelves with games and books. I don't like ...the sometimes stingy fillings, the staff can be a little surly/sarcastic and just plain bad at their job (customer service in case they are wondering what I mean). Well who wants upbeat american style service all the time - we are in scotland after all so we go happily knowing that anyway. There are high chairs and it is baby friendly but not toddler or child friendly unless your child is able to sit at a table. There is no room for wandering children and no box of toys. More suitable for a child is old enough to play chess etc or who can bring a games console. The toilets are nice and clean. I love the building and the stairs leading up to it with all the posters and flyers. If you want yo know what bands are coming to aberdeen just visit the stairs to Kilau.

“Work on your manners guys”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Another cafe in Aberdeen that does good coffee, but let down by some of the staff members. A particular young lady was rude to the point of insulting. I posted on the cafe web forum, and the manager wasn't really interested. At roughly £10 a pop for coffee and a sandwich...I should think that they would put some more focus on manners to their customers.

I think this was the best coffee i've ever had. And the artwork is fantastic. This place is a hidden jem!

“Baguette based menu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

If you don't mind negotiating a steep flight of poster- plastered stairs to earn your supper, then Kilau is the place for you! Nestled secretly next to the much larger and brash Slain's Castle Bar, this laid-back little eaterie is a great find. It may seem a little "studenty" but it's clean and friendly with a tempting continental baguette based menu that won't break your budget. It's also open until 9pm most nights, so it's handy for a quick bite after enjoying a couple of drinks after work too. What more could you ask from a city centre cafe?
