The Royal Hotel is located in a quiet little street (Bath St) very close the the very city centre (Union Street, Belmont Street, etc.). The staff is very helpful. My room was very small and not convenient (twin bedroom ~ 70+ £).

The bathroom had no shelves and was very basic (neon-lit, dubious green lino that hadn't been washed for a while, no wash cloth...).

The room lacked convenient furniture to unpack your luggage (only a shelveless wardrobe). Overall it looked clean but the tiled ceiling and the pale neon made me think I was in an office... A good point: the bed & pillows were very comfortable.

Breakfast is okay (standard English breakfast).

This hotel is okay for short stays - not extended stays like mine (5 days).

“Disgusting hotel”

I stayed in this hotel with a colleague. Our rooms were on the top floor and when we arrived the lift was broken; we asked for help with our cases but were told that none was available. Having made two trips with the cases and headed out for dinner we returned to discover that the life had been fixed, but the stench in it was appalling and there was some unpleasant substance plastered up its (carpeted) walls.
All floor coverings in the hotel were filthy and bedcoverings were old blankets which showed no sign of having been washed recently and smelled somewhat. One room had a cracked bath and no shower. In the other the wallpaper was black with damp and a large area had peeled off the wall; the hotel had stuck it up again with sellotape. The breakfast room was shabby and none too clean. There is very little parking available and we had to leave the car in a nearby multi-storey at £12 per day (= over 12 hours).
This was, without question, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We laughed out loud when we were told that they were charging £65 per night. We said to the girl behind the desk that the hotel was disgustingly dirty. She shrugged her shoulders and said that 'we could speak to the manager but he wasn't there'.

“Huge room!”

Hotel was okay, could do with some redecoration though.

Room was huge. We were on the 4th floor (room 404) and we had 3 separate rooms. Main part with bed, 28inch tv, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 3 chairs. Bathroom was also a fair size. Then we discovered that our room had an upstairs!! This has another 28inch tv and a fairly large sofa bed. Well impressed.

Location was great, 5 mins from train station and 5 mins from Aberdeen Music Hall and Union Street etc. Downside was that it's right across the road from Liquid Nightclub - very noisy on a Saturday night at 2am!!

Breakfast was superb.

Staff were excellent, especially the reception staff and the lady running the restaurant.

I would definitely go back to this hotel, just not at the weekend!!

As a business traveller to Aberdeen over a number of years, this was my first trip to the Royal Hotel.
The location is excellent, just off Union Street and close to the rail station.
The hotel itself was mixed. On the plus side, the evening meals that I had were good value and promptly served. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful overall.
The room that I had, on the third floor, was spacious, but the floor appeared to be uneven, which did not cause problems, but was strange to say the least. There was evidence of previous water damage to several of the ceiling tiles and the carpet was very basic.
The shower worked well and the bathroom facilities were adequate but, again, the floor covering was not the best.
I would consider staying at this hotel again but only for a couple of nights at a time.

“Tacky”

Royal Hotel

Although staff are very nice the hotel is not. The first room we were put in the bed tiltled towards the door as the floor had an incline on it, the second room was flat and a bit better but the bathroom had a hole in the ceiling. Although the brochure said the bar had been refurbished this was still a work in progress. The car park is a space to the rear of the hotel that holds 3 to 4 cars but it is right outside a night club.
