“You will get more than you paid for.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We had 2 connecting rooms for a family night away, and were pleased with what we found.
Check-in was swift and painless, and the rooms were nicer than travelodge, but similar.

After getting our parking ticket validated, we headed back into Aberdeen for an evening with friends.

We all slept quite well although the mattress was a bit springy for me, and the bathrooms were small but adequate. I don't recommend the coffee in the rooms, if you like coffee.

We found that the breakfast was good, and because of the room rate, and our party's ages, was also good value.

I had read a number of other reviews complaining that you have to go outside to get to the restaurant, but if that is all you have to complain about, you should get out more.

Breakfast was entertaining, but I did feel sorry for the waitress, as she seemed to have a lot to do. We had to prove that we had pre-paid for the meal, which I thought could have possibly been easier if reception had provided a list that morning. Still, I turned the car inside out, and found my receipt....

We ordered the full breakfast, and the only problem was that the food didn't match the menu. Why not amend the menu to match the ingrediants available? One of the group didn't like baked beans, and they are tricky to remove once they have been launched onto the plate. So we ate at different times!

The coffee was good (compared to the room coffee - see above) but you probably wont have a second cup or a refill.

Anyway, we thought it was a good meal overall, and would do it again. Only next time we might get away without the kids, and will go somewhere nicer!

Oh, one last thing: the TV seemed to have a few channels, but they didn't seem to use recognised channel numbers, and the remote didn't seem to exactly match the tv. All we wanted to watch was the olympics, and we found that ok. The serious channel-hoppers in the nxt room had more difficulties!

Room Tip: I think they are all much the same. Ours had connecting doors, which suited

We chose to stay at the Speedbird Inn due to its close proximity to Aberdeen airport, as we had a morning flight and didn’t want to stay in town and battle the morning traffic. Our room was fine, but for some reason very warm, so much so, that we had trouble sleeping and ended up having to open the window in order to get some much needed fresh air. The shower facilities were okay. I wasn’t much impressed with breakfast. There was also a rather grumpy woman who was on duty as a server, and who was obviously not much of a morning person. I would say that the inn is best for those travelling on business or those who are leaving on morning flights out of Aberdeen.

Great place to spend the night before an early flight the next morning. The IKEA vibe is attractive and modern, the bathroom facilities are great, and the early, early wake-up call came right on time. Easy walk to and from the airport itself, with a short-cut through the rental-car lot. Suited my very basic travel purposes perfectly.

Reception staff were excellent but sadly the dining room staff were rude and very, very slow. A lot of the patrons are offshore workers and having spent ten years out there myself many years ago I recognised immediately the lack of courtesy from the staff. Sadly, every hotel in and around Aberdeen is the same. The shuttle bus doesn't start in time for the first international flights to Frankfurt and Amsterdam which is another pain in the butt as $10 for a two hundred yard taxi ride is a bit much. Rooms are very small but adequate. The only positives for this hotel are price and proximity to the airport.

Don't quite understand why this place is so well rated - food terrible, breakfast staff rude, reception staff ok, 1970's room decor parking hard to get a space, TV not working.
Place seems to be understaffed, and service is suffering as a result

Typical traveller type hotel. Room spotless, comfy bed bit noisy with helicopters but not terribly so. Restaurant was OK. Would stay again.

We just needed a place to stay overnight, preferably close to the airport. This hotel kept all its promises, not fancy, but clean, nice beds and the room was quiet.
