I can't praise this hotel highly enough, everything was first class. The food in particular was exceptional and the staff were very pleasant. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway and not far from the city, everything about this hotel is luxurious. The bar is amongst the most expensive I've ever been to but it's so comfortable you will hardly even notice!

Stayed here for a wedding. The food was sensational and the wine never stopped flowing!
Beautiful interior to the highest standard while still having a country, manor house feel.
The staff were all very attentive and nothing was too much to ask for.
We had a suite with a large well stocked bathroom with molton brown products. Would stay here again for a function but appreciate the other comments, if your not a wedding guest perhaps better to stay not at peak wedding season.

Here for three nights thinking of having three days of luxury to break up our trip around the UK. First night, in a deluxe room, one up from standard, a private function across the way from our room, oh joy, finished at 1.30 am, despite calling reception. Night 2 they kindly shifted us to a new room, fabulous rooms, really really good! The door roof music stopped at 12.30 and now there is a loud bus idling outside waiting to pick up revelers I think.
Don't get me wrong, this is a high quality hotel with fabulous rooms just never ever visit it on the weekend. A complete waste of money. We have one more night, Sunday, hopefully that will be a little better.

Stayed one night for a wedding at this hotel. Wedding was very well organised and staff could not be more helpful. The wedding dinner was excellent with large portions. Everyone commented it was one if the best meals they'd had at a wedding. Our room was a basic room. Very clean. Bed very comfortable, crisp bedding. Windows that opened and fresh fruit and water in room for our use. Tea/coffee and Scottish shortbread too all complimentary. Well equipped with hairdryer, iron/board, secure safe etc. Flat screen television with selected freeview channels. Bathroom wasn't very large but clean and lots of towels. For 5 star status I really would expect separate shower rather than one over the bath. Fan stayed on all the time which was quiet noisy too. Breakfast was very good with fruit, cereals, croissants, toast, juices etc. Plus full menu of cooked breakfasts too. We had too ask how long our cooked food would be as waited 20 mins and were having to depart in 30 mins time. Was told that everything is cooked fresh that is why took so long. Was one of best breakfasts we've had though nothing greasy or overcooked. All in all a great hotel but overpriced due to it's 5 stars. If you get a good price then worth it.

The Marcliffe is an impressive hotel from the moment you turn into the sweeping driveway and see the beautiful white building and well groomed gardens. Despite being a short drive from the city centre, you really feel as though you are in the country. Walking in the main doors you are greeted with a beautiful staircase, huge sofas, the biggest flower arrangement i've seen and a large open fire. The staff were professional and friendly without being overly familiar. The restaurant food is fantastic and serves the best of the area's produce and if you are lucky enough to stay in a suite then you will have a very enjoyable stay. The regular rooms aren't as fancy so if you want to impress then upgrade. I stayed in a huge suite to the front of the building which overlooked the gardens. The interior design throughout the hotel is beautiful.
This hotel is not cheap but you feel very special staying here and that's priceless.

Room Tip: Book a suite and feel like royalty

Great family room and my favourite type which is a must for us! The connecting door rooms! Lovely rooms very nice indeed but the big tv's need to go. The mini bar, juices, sweets were very happy suprise and made the room to be honest! The children were over the moon at that treat and thought they were very grown up getting their own soda out. The breakfast was very good but the stay was let down by the evening meals I did feel they were over priced and too few options. The children were not really catered for and our children are not really chicken nugget & chips type of children. So I asked how much it would cost for them to have a Childs size of our choice and I thought the quoted price was ott
, I don't think any hotel should charge greatly for childrens food
when their parents are spending so
much in the hotel . I think this is a lovely hotel but too over priced, that would stop me recommending it only

My husband & I stayed here while on trip back home to see Relatives and Friends. The Marcliffe did not disappoint. The staff in the common areas, dining room, reception, bar, door men, housekeeping all did a very good job and nothing was a problem.

The food we had at the hotel was second to none, the breakfasts was excellent and the one meal we had there in the evening was very good also.

As was pointed out by another contributor, the only downside would be the "jaded"bathrooms which need to be taken into the 21st century. All other parts of the hotel are lovely.
