“Scientific fun for all the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

Satrosphere is Aberdeen's science museum. Think of it as a smaller version of the one at Glasgow. Lots of fun and interesting exhibits for kids of all ages to try out - some are physical, some are mental, all will boggle their brains. There are also workshops, science-themed story times, and "on-the-spot science" shows which include audience participation.

We went along when Satrosphere was hosting "Astronaut Training" and our almost-5-y-o son had a great time getting into his space cadet outfit, taking part in a space themed quiz, and participating in a communication challenge. We also enjoyed the planetarium show, which was narrated by Rupert Grint (Ron Weasely from the Harry Potter films).

The staff are friendly, helpful and informative, always ready to help the kids with the various exhibits and explain them to everyone.

There's also a very nice little cafe which serves soup, sandwiches and baked potatoes, cakes, crisps and treats, and an array of hot and cold drinks, all at pretty reasonable prices. We fed two adults and one hungry kid for around £13.

There's a shop where you can buy little toys and science gimmick stuff, again at reasonable prices (we got three dinosaurs for £3).

Fun extra - the toilets have the names of famous scientists on the outside of the cubicle doors, and then on the other side it tells you a little about why they're famous (so you can even learn while you're using the loo!). They're also very clean and there is a good sized baby change area too.

It's right down by the beach, so if the sun comes out, you can catch some rays and go paddling after you've visited Satrosphere.

If you have a Spree book, they usually have a couple of free child admission vouchers, but even if you don't, the Satrosphere website occasionally has them there to download and print off too, which cuts the cost of a family trip.

“good fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

took daughter here, who is 14.5 months old, who enjoyed some of the interactive displays, as with any child this young her attention span isnt great so we didnt persue any activity for very long, but she still enjoyed herself and, as there was a kids party being held there, loved seeing all the other kids. I would love to return bu perhaps when she is a little older.

“Good day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Would have had an excellent if all the exhibits had been working. Those that were (the vast majority) were engaging and informative. The talks and experiments allowing children hands-on were brilliant.
