Firstly I should make it clear I am an airline pilot so have stayed in a multitude of hotels across the world over the years and it takes a lot to impress me but this hotel is outstanding.
I stayed for three nights at Norwood Hall Hotel in February. The trip coincided with my 8 year old's birthday so I elected to take the family with me on the trip. The hotel general manager was extremely prompt and efficient in facilitating this and arranging for an extra bed in the room etc.
The hotel is an extremely impressive building and very beautiful inside with marvellous oak panelling, stained glass windows, epic chandeliers and roaring log fires. Our room was extremely spacious, beautifully appointed and the enormous bed was supremely comfortable. All decor was very new and fresh and the high quality lavender toiletries were a big hit with us and just right for a hotel like this in Scotland.
All of the staff were very highly motivated and professional and went out of their way to make you feel like an extremely valued guest.
Breakfast which was served in the magnificent dining hall was quite simply outstanding. In my experience Macdonald are quite simply the only hotel chain I can think of that still individually cook every single breakfast to order. I spend my life looking at congealed fried eggs and trays of sausages and bacon sitting under infra red lamps in the Hilton's, Crowne Plazas and Holiday Inn's of the world and frankly they disgust me. At the Norwood Hall Macdonald the breakfast is made from top quality ingredients, cooked utterly perfectly to order and served on piping hot plates direct your table. It is so far removed from the mass catering chain hotel catering I normally get that it feels a world apart. The same incidentally applies to every other meal we ate there. The food is tangibly in a different league to other hotels. One night I wasn't due back until around 10.30pm which is a while after the normal hot food menu ceases. In the event I mentioned it to the hotel and they said - "That's no problem, if you tell us what you'd like to eat and when you expect to be back then we can provide what you want. I arrived back at around 10.30pm and shortly afterwards a delicious plate of home made wild mushroom ravioli was delivered to the room. It's service like this that makes the hotel so special.
One final mention must go to the way that my Daughter was treated on her birthday in the hotel. All of the staff wished her Happy Birthday at breakfast, then the General Manager appeared with a present and a card for her. There isn't a single other hotel in the world that I can imagine doing that and I don't think I can honestly say I have ever stayed anywhere that offers better hospitality.
The Norwood Hall is my favourite hotel on the airline network, it was one of the best stays I have ever had anywhere, Macdonald have yet again justified why they are my preferred chain anywhere I go when travelling on holiday or a leisure break.
Outstanding in every respect...
