“Not too bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2009

Having checked out recent reviews I made sure to ask for a room not above any party rooms as my stay was on a Friday in December. I slept well and had a very good breakfast. The fried eggs, for example, were freshly cooked. Buffet selection limited and the OJ tasted watered down. This was not, in my opinion, pure OJ. Buy your own Tropicana. Staff good. The rooms are dated but quite acceptable although not 4 star level-more like three and a half. WiFi expensive so most will not buy it. . Biggest issue was people smoking on the steps leading into the hotel. The smoke drifts into reception which stinks. It also then goes into the elevator which means the smell of stale smoke permeates the bedroom floors. Not good but easily fixed. This hotel will no doubt be refitted to keep up with the newer offerings in Aberdeen such as the revamped Atholl which for me is better value for money.

Thank you for your recent review of Copthorne Aberdeen and your positive remarks on our breakfast. Our Head Chef is currently looking into the supply of fresh orange juice as it has been an issue for a couple of guests recently, but I'm glad that it did not spoil your overall enjoyment.

Your comments regarding smokers at the hotel entrance are noted but I'm sure you'll agree it is very difficult to police this 100% of the time and during the cold, dark months it is understandable that many would try to stay under the canopy.

We do hope that you will return to the hotel in the near future.

rooms average, first night noise from disco (xmas nights out) came straight up into our room. give them their dues they moved us up a floor but unfortunately second night music filtered through from somwhere else! not the best when you have to get up for a course the next day! well situated for town centre, helpful staff!

Many thanks for your recent review of the hotel.

We do endeavour to inform all guests prior to arrival about the potential for increased noise over the party season and, wherever possible, we do allocate rooms for guests not connected with the parties in the quieter part of the hotel so I do apologise that you were disturbed.

On a positive note, thanks for your good comments on location and staff. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Had a great weekend stay, where I found the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, the room extremely large and spacious and all situated in a great location, less than 5 mins walk from Union Street - the central highway to Aberdeen.

Will definately use again in the future.

This hotel is brilliantly located in a quiet but central street in aberdeen. The club room i had was spacious and quiet if a little too warm for my taste. The reception staff were fantastic and very helpfull to a tired buisnesman.
However the Night team were atrocious it was clear the old manager had no idea of the local area and he was shockingly rude to his staff when they offered the information i was requesting. His attitude to myself was not much better and it certainly took the shine of a very enjoyable stay.
Thankfully upon checkout the manager was gone and the receptionist (Hannah?? i believe) was a true ray of sunshine.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay with us.

The positive feedback on the receptionist, who I believe would have been Hayley, is most welcome and has been passed onto her with our congratulations.

I do apologise for the negative experience you encountered with our Night Manager. Unfortunately this was one of a couple of instances we were made aware of which led us to review his position and I can now confirm that he no longer works at the hotel.

I do hope that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon.

The location of this hotel is great; the rooms were quite nice, and despite being so central, the free parking was appreciated! The staff also were extremely friendly and helpful, so kudos to them. Of the three hotels I have stayed in Aberdeen, this one is my favorite.

Only complaint really is that my airline miles were not posted (never got a response to the email asking about it later), but other than that, very good!

We know how the Aberdeen hotels work through the week when it's mostly business people staying but on this occasion we got a decent price for the Copthorne which was more appealing to us than an hour's drive home in the wee small hours after our concert! - they gave a better price when we phoned than we found having trawled the internet for hours.

Room - nothing amazing but the basics are fine - it was big, clean and had Sky Sports channels which is a major bonus in any hotel these days! We paid an extra little bit to get a club room which included the internet prices, otherwise that would have been expensive. Didn't see their standard room so don't know if there's a discernible difference in style between the 2.
Staff - great. Receptionist was knowledgable about eateries and city hotspots. Breakfast service was swift and non-intrusive.
Food - fine, plenty of choice at breakfast.

Only issues - parking (nightmare!) and we didn't get our wake up call.

But all-in-all a good deal and a fine stay.

Many thanks for your recent review of Copthorne Aberdeen. I am pleased that, for the main part, you had an enjoyable stay with us. I can confirm that we have no plans to remove Sky Sports from our bedrooms and, indeed, we have invested in ESPN in our public bar to allow us to bring comprehensive coverage for sports fans. Thanks for your comments on our club rooms; there is not a big difference between our standard and club rooms but the club rooms are slightly brighter and airier and the inclusive internet access means that the upgrade cost is well worth it for most travellers. Lastly, we do appreciate the difficulties our limited parking throws up but the provision in place, at no charge where available, is an added bonus for a city centre hotel. Generally, we find that our guests are satisfied with the parking due to the close proximity of the public car park and the fact that it offers complimentary overnight parking.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

hotel was easy to find from the train station and although its not right in the centre thats not such a bad thing - its nice and quiet!

reception is quite grand looking and although the room wasn't the best it was all we needed for the time we spent there. it was big and clean but didnt really have anything wow about it!

breakfast was good, no complaints there and normally we are fussy with that!

drawback was the parking - we got in on one of the nights we stayed but not the other. its the smallest car park i have ever seen! but its the city centre and its free so you can only hedge your bets i suppose. we didnt want to risk scratching the hire car tho!

all in all we had a good stay - we've stayed in better hotels when in Aberdeen but we have also stayed in much worse for sure!

Thanks for the feedback about your recent stay with us at Copthorne Aberdeen. Your comments on breakfast have been fed back to the team and I am pleased to report that our breakfast quality is an aspect of our service that is consistently reported to be good. Thanks for the feedback on parking too, I'm sure you are aware that this issue was not unique to your stay and it is something that we are aware of. However, we do feel that the provision of a free car park in the city centre, regardless of size, is an added benefit to our guests and the complimentary overnight parking in the Chapel Street car park allows for any over spill.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel soon.
