“overpriced”

Britannia Hotel - Aberdeen

Apr 10, 2008

We checked into this hotel last minute and found it was overpriced for what you got, and was cheaper if you booked before hand. The room was ok, but no better than a travelodge or something like that which would have been cheaper and probably in a better location. It didnt seem to have much surrounding the hotel, and i think a taxi from the Aberdeen exhibition and confrence centre cost us around £20. The only problem i had was the hotel smelt really bad when we were there, even the receptionist commented on this as i checked out. All in all the hotel was ok, but not worth the money for the quality or location.

“a concerning experience”

As a lone female I found this hotel quite daunting. Walking from the car-park late at night I thought I should have a got a prize for finding the entrance to this drab dark hotel. Walking down endless long corridors to get to my room, in a hotel full of oilworkers, was a little unnerving. This was not really the problem though. The room was not sufficiently cleaned: the bathroom bin was not emptied and, without going into too much detail, the standard of hygiene resulted in me developing a transient case of obsessive compulsive disorder as I anxiously checked the sheets and pillowcases before retiring for the night. Strangely those on the bed were fine but the spares were in need of contact with a washing machine/bin. The brochures, menus etc in the room were tatty and coffee-stained. The room was quiet enough but otherwise soul-less and depressing. I have had better nights in £20 a night B and B's. I felt completely ripped off paying £129 for a bed. Even the vending machines were out of order. A bizarre other-world experience which just dumb-founded me. I will always pack my sleeping bag and tent in the car in case I ever have such an experience in a city again.

“Interesting stay”

Well, where do I start.

Normally stay in ABZ centre so I can walk to the office, but there was "no room at the inn" so I was put out in Bucksburn.

First impression of the hotel was not that good. But then realised that some of the breeze block was granite.

It took me quite a while to check in, considering there was only one other in front of me an two on reception. I was kind of "ignored" by the lady who was there.

Had to secure with a card, but they could not take my comapny debit card and had to use my personal credit card.

Walking along the corridors all I could think was "Ugh" There is a lot of TLC required in this place.

The room however, was adequate. However, the phone did not work and there is no high speed internet connection, which for the business user is a must today.

I had been happy to be in the hotel is it had a gym and pool.

The pool is very small, but I could swim three stroke widths and managed a few hundred. The gym was okay, but if there were 10 people in there, everything was used up. The sauna was small, but okay for one. (Three would have been cosy and 4 would have been intimate) The steam room was big though and very welcome.

There was a second steam room there called the changing room. Man is that a hot house.

Went to the bar for something to eat. Great soups, bar meals okay.

However, i am 6 foot and weigh 260 pounds and some of the hard drinking oil workers made me feel that, once I have eaten i will "be off"

Breakfast - caters for people who are going to the airport early by opening at 5am, a plus point. It was good food, in a buffet style (never the best for fired eggs) but it allowed you to go in, and out without a fuss.

Had not packed a razor and toothbrush so asked for one off the housekeeping and was told that they did not do this. Rare for me to have done this, but in the previous times where I have left items in rooms between changes of hotels I have always been able to get a razor and/or toothbrush if required.

Journey into the city centre was a torture. 25 minutes to get to and from the office.

Second night I tried the main restaurant, but as i did not have my charge slip for the room, i was curtley told to go and get cash, so i told the woman that I could not be [--] to eat in her restaurant and went off to the salt of the earth in the bar. Again, goos soup, nice mixed grill, but hard drinking oilworkers made it a short stay and return to my room. (I live out of hotels and have spent 230+ nights in a year in a hotel and I NEVER go to my room early.)

Breakfast again was okay.

In the evening and ready to start my 3 nights stay I got al call to return back to London. Took 15 minutes to get out, they could not print a statement as the system would not let them, the card machine did not work, but apart from that, it went smootly.

So, got to confess, as I went to the airport, I was quite pleased to have left.

Sorry Britania, but this is not a very good hotel at all.

“A Budget hotel that needs upgrading”

Stayed one night in this hotel while on business in Aberdeen.

Location was good and near to the airport, Reception was ok with a relatively quick check in, Room was spacious with an ok bed, view was awful looking over a back garden of some type. Like the rest of the hotel it needs some refurbishment as it’s quite old.

The bar area was small and cold.

Dinner and breakfast was just ok with a terrible atmosphere in the restaurant.

This hotel is ok if you need to get a decent nights sleep but thats about it!

“Shocking Hotel!”

Britannia Hotel - Aberdeen

Jan 31, 2008

I didn't expect much from reading the previous reviews of this place and yet still I was surprised how bad the hotel was. The staff are indifferent bordering on rude, most of the customers are oil worker types who seem unable to complete a sentence without the F or C word in it. The room was dirty, badly maintained and cold and the breakfast was simply inedible.
Given the choice in future of this place or sleeping in my car, the car will win every time!
