“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

Ordered king rib and chips and a single jumbo sausage.

The king rib and jumbo were cooked correctly so the meat was firm but not rubbery. The batter was crispy as it should be. The chips we're a perfect golden brown colour and tasted great. Clearly cooked in nice fresh oil and the friers had been cleaned adequately and routinely.

Would happily use again and staff were prompt and efficient asking all the relevant questions

“Worst Chips!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Just had a cone of chips here while waiting for the Jet bus to ABZ airport.
The small.cone cost £1.80 which seemed alot to me for absolutely disgusting chips. I got the odds and ends left by the looks of it, they tasted awful, and I ended up throwing half away!
Staff's uniforms and general hygiene looked bad. Wouldnt go back.

“A captive clientele - recommended only if you have to.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

OK let's get it straight. No one is going to come to the Osprey to eat if you have free choice.
You are in staying at The Thistle and you are stuck there or you don,t want to fork out close to $50 to take a taxi there and back.

So assuming you are out at the airport and stuck. Sucks to be you but the Osprey is OK. It's not great but it's edible.

Nothing is great food wise but its OK. I'd go with the fish and chips. I tried the lamb shank and it was av

Service as you would imagine is nothing spectacular but I've experienced much worse.

Value - well your stuck so grin and bear it! To be fair by Aberdeen standards its average value.

Ambience is pretty soulless but the the decor is OK.

“Great food in a nice atmosphere with attentive staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

I ate here at the weekend with a group of friends and family who were staying at the hotel. The restaurant itself is very nice. The atmosphere is relaxed yet there is an element of formality. the menu itself here is huge. There is a great deal of choice and there really is something for everyone. I started with the pate - home made and very nice. Served with toast but no chutney or jam - perhaps something which would add to the dish? I then had the gammon steak with chips and a fried egg. The gammon itself was excellent - no waste at all with the meat and the egg on top was very well cooked - yoke runny which is just the way I like it! For dessert I had the special which was a cheesecake made with oranges and cointreau - excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed the dessert and was an excellent end to a great meal. Some of the others eating also spoke very highly of their food, most notably the sea bass and the pork wellington. Although the restaurant and hotel are a little out of the city centre (at the airport) the restaurant is worth making a trip for if you fancy trying somewhere a little different.
