“Good food...slow services”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013 via mobile

Have been to the cove bay hotel in the past and always had an enjoyable experience, this time was a bit of a let down. Seated and drinks orders taken, which took around 10 minutes to arrive, left with menus not advised any specials another 20 minutes passed before any orders were taken, when our food arrived we had a 5 minute delay between the first 2 meals and the other 2 which was a disappointment I had to to ask for my side order which had been forgotten. Food was great! Which made up for the delay. Deserts again took a good while to order and receive, 2nd round of drinks had to be chased up, bill was incorrect, sorted and apologized for. All in all a slow experience with great food, don't expect fast service but you do get it with a smile and a beautiful view if you are lucky enough to get a window seat. More staff and we would be onto a winner!

Had to stay one night on business, staff were friendly enough and the evening meal was OK rather expensive for a steak but edible. However the room was another matter, old, tired and shabby but the worst was the bed and pillows smelled sour and sweaty, sheets looked clean but put over smelly bedding. The mattress was so old the springs just gave up long ago.
The shower worked well but the party wall between your bathroom and next door was so thin I heard ever noise from the next door bathroom, all night.
There was no mirror in the room only a small one in the bathroom so drying my hair in the morning was awkward and make up near impossible in the dim light.
Shame really this could be a sweet little place but no care and attention has been given to comfort of guests

Room Tip: Premier lodge or thistle hotel just down the road

We've been here a few times recently and the food is really good. All very tasty and just as described. Unlike recent reviewers, didn't think it was at all expensive. Ok the public areas are showing a bit of wear and tear, could probably do with a revamp. The upside is the staff are very friendly and helpful. All in all a really nice experience if you want a nice meal. Only downside we found was the coffee - definitely not nice! Seemed like cheap coffee powder.

Had no choice of alternatives as this was a last minute business trip. Found the hotel to be really run down, it had dirty public areas with filthy carpets, tired decoration, noisy bar area that resonated into my room and found average and pricey food. Very disappointed. Secretary told never to book me there again! Staff friendly despite the issues. Reception is the restaurant bar, confusing. I would avoid this hotel in the future unless there is a major overhaul.

Stayed here one night, very friendly staff and the food in the restaurant was fantastic, really fresh and menu had lots of choice. Shame about the room which was very cold (attic room) with only a small convector heater which made the air very dry through the night. Bathroom was along the corridor on top level but was also very cold and struggled to get the shower water hot.
I would certainly return here for a meal but would have to be quite desperate for a room before I would stay again.

Have been to the Cove Bay Hotel for meals a number of times in the 17 years I have lived in Cove. Had a meal there with my wife on Saturday 09/02/2013. In our experience the food was and still is very good, which has always been the case under the various owners. However on our most recent visit the service was poor, which disappointed us. It was as if the member of staff responsible for serving our table had gone home before we had finished our meal. We watched as tables of people who had arrived after us were waited on, being offered the desert menu and coffee etc, while we appeared to be ignored. I took me all my time to get someone's attention to ask for the bill. I will put this down to a one off bad experience and will go back but will leave it long enough for the management to improve their customer service. In this instance the business lost out as we would have liked special coffees to round off our meal, but were not given the opportunity to order them. Good food and service equals good tips and unfortunately the service let everyone down on this occasion.

Room Tip: Apologies, please delete the swimming pool and room score, these were entered in error.
