It's been said before - ideal for the AECC and plentiful free parking. Nice seaview on the east side but the room windoes don't open.....if you like to open your window ask for a room on the west side (but you forego a view). Room was clean but the bed felt abit like sleeping on a blancmange. Staff on the desk and in the bar were friendly and helpful. Not much in the immediate area so you have to go into town for a choice of eateries....a 3.5 mile walk each way but taxis are plentiful and there is a frequent bus service.

Stayed for two nights for exhibition with my whole team. The location is perfect for attending AECC but other than that no reason to be there. Half an hour drive into Aberdeen in terrible backed up traffic everywhere. Ate at the main Holiday Inn next door which has a better atmosphere and far more extensive menu, really the menu at the express is just fast food snacks. The meal at main hotel meant steak and salad for me and one must say perfectly cooked on both nights! There isn't much to say about the Express other than its clean and functional, however given the price of the rooms which seemed extortionate it would have been nice if the bar staff showed anything like the same helpfulness as the reception or room teams! Bear in mind that you will not get a drink at the bar after 1am even if you are with a party all staying at the hotel and you are willing to put on your account. This seemed strange.

Dear Lassieonthemove,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay.
I am glad to hear that you found the hotel clean and functional.
However I am sorry you did not like our limited snack menu, which due to the Express brand standard is limited to only a few items, unlike a full service Holiday Inn is allowed a more extensive menu.
Please accept my apologises if the bar staff where not as friendly as they should have been
Thank you once again for your review and your feedback.

Yours Sincerely

Good and clean, front desk nice and kind. The bar is ok for the evening, especially considering the distance to town. Breakfast not so good and the coffee really bad, but that's in whole Aberdeen, not only the hotel. The room was clean, i didn't like though the curtain from the shower.. About 20 min from the airport and 10-15 min from the city center (12 pounds with cab)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our only complaint spoon and folk containers should be marked so they can have handles pointing upwards. It's a health hazard when people need to take their utensil out and touch other items jammed into container.

Hotel was easy enough to find.

I would like to say that check-in was almost as easy but it wasn't. Our room key cards weren't programmed properly by reception and you need these cards for lift access to the bedroom floors. we inserted one card, the doors closed and nothing happened, we tried the other card, nothing happened, we tried calling, banging on the lift door, and sounding the alarm (that only gets you to a recorded message from the lift company service centre in London). Suddenly the door opened and out we shot to reception who seem unfazed about our scary ordeal. Yes we got new cards and the duty manager accompanied us to our room.

The room on the 5th floor was reasonable with a fantastic sea view, Now try the tv. we switched it on and followed the instructions and all we saw was a black screen displaying PLEASE WAIT, after 10 minutes, we switched it off and back on and ignored the instructions and it worked!!

And so to bed - Don't expect a comfortable night's sleep here for you have the accompaniment of the room air-con/heating making strange noises 24/7, the bathroom fan also running 24/7 and the joys of hearing everyone else's plumbing!!

Breakfast was typical HIE - OK.

Departure day and back to the lift - guess what the damn thing did to us again? Trapped us inside, after a few minutes the doors reopened.

Room Tip: Got into the city, but as Aberdeen has declined so rapidly in the past two years, find another city.

Have stayed here a few times but this wasn't a great stay, after checking in had to switch rooms as TV didn't work, room was very small with sofa bed pulled out don't remember room being that small & with 2 adults & a child not a lot of space!.
Breakfast was ok but the hot foods were stone cold so that put us of getting breakfast the other 2 mornings!.
There was also a very bad sewage smell that you would get ever now & then which wasn't pleasant so to be honest couldn't wait to check out!.
There is a park & ride so easy to get into town without using car but bus service doesn't run on a Sunday!.
Also a McDonalds close by but nothing else!.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2015

Stayed one night to attend Disney On Ice. For two adults and one child the cost was £50, this included breakfast. Th room was small with the sofa bed pulled out, but as the sofa bed was way ahead of anything in a Travelodge, couldn't really complain. Only niggle was trying to get the lift down to the basement level car park. Seperate call button for the one lift that goes down to that level would improve that situation.
