“Best hostel :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2014

This place is so lovely and cozy so was perfect last week when it was raining. I had a lovely time here as there is a guitar, movies, nice place to cook and a cozy living room. The Copenhagen girl working there was so lovely. I travel a lot and this was one of the nicest hostels I have stayed at. Stay here if you come to Derry! :) :) :)

It's always a bit hit and miss with hostels but this one I would go back to and recommend in a heartbeat. Location is perfect; 2 minutes from the City centre yet far enough that it's very quiet at night. The hostess is beyond kind and very interesting to talk to; she's travelled a great deal and is always happy to share her stories. On my 2nd morning there she had made fresh bread for us and the continental breakfast includes eggs, which was a nice surprise. Everything is clean and there's a surprising amount of space for the number of rooms. Overall, I wish every hostel I went to was just as nice and if I ever go back to Derry I won't think twice about where to stay.

Stayed here with a large group of friends. We were split between 3 rooms which was fine. Girl who greeted us was friendly & welcoming.

Bedrooms, bathrooms & kitchen all very clean & well looked after. Plenty of bread, eggs, yoghurts & juice for breakfast.

Only area for concern related to unexpected extra guests. As one managed to access our room after reception had closed & while we were out. They obviously had access codes from a previous visit. Their presence was not welcomed by the guest (not part of our group) who found the extra guest in their bed. I feel the hostel needs to review it's security & introduce a policy of changing door codes on a regular basis.

Beds are comfortable & as this hostel is set a couple of streets back from the busy city centre we enjoyed a quiet nights sleep.

I loved staying there, this hostel is more like a big house with lots of nice people living and working there. It is very close to the city center, breakfast included, friendly owners.
I enjoyed staying there very much!

Steve who runs the place is a great guy. Funny, welcoming, informative, and very helpful. The facilities were great. A better bed than I have at home even. The crowd was great too, and I usually steer clear of hostel crowds and prefer to do my own thing. But the small size of the place was conducive to developing friendships with the other guests. Great perks like laundry service at most any time of day, and fresh baked bread, show how far they're willing to go to make it a great trip for you. I'd recommend the hostel to anyone. And Derry was utterly delightful.

Fresh baked bread, jam, eggs, and coffee for breakfast at a hostel? Loved it! Steve was an excellent host and told us about the best places in town to visit and Ruairí did an amazing tour of the walls

In what 5 star hotel to you get fresh baked bread in the morning, and the use of a guitar?
Derry Independent Hostel for sure.
Had a smashing time, met some lovely people, and Rauraigh o'Hara does a very informative guided tour of the walls of Derry.
All the best, Henry Lawrence (Comrade Sir Henry)
