“Excellent informative tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013 via mobile

We contacted Eilish and she was able to meet us (in the rain!) for an excellent walking tour around Derry at a time convenient to our little group. She had outstanding knowledge of the history and was able to give us a good insight into life in Derry during the troubles as well as Derrys current development as Cultural Capital. She had great humour and its was extremely good value for money.highly recommend this tour!

“A Superb Tour of 'Derry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

As a frequent visitor to Ireland/Northern Ireland from Canada in the late seventies, and early eighties, during "the troubles", I'd skirted around Derry City, but I had never entered the city limits.
Since that time the city had intrigued me and I felt that I'd like to get to know it better. During a trip back in 2005, Derry City was not in the cards. However, this wish of mine was finally fulfilled during a trip back to Ireland in September 2012.
Accompanied by my daughter who resides in Austria (who's father was born in Co.'Derry) and her Austrian fiance, a historian who had written his Master's Thesis paper on Irish history we made our way to Derry City.
Upon arrival we debated upon how to spend our day. My daughter's fiance suggested a walking tour, which had also been highly recommended by a family member, that we were staying with. We agreed and made our way to the Derry Tourist Information Centre and luckily we arrived five short minutes before Eilish, of Tours n' Trails was about to embark on what was to be an amazing and most reasonably priced walking tour, with an interesting and inquisitive group that came from all over the globe.
Eilish is a rare gem, knowledgeable and informative and highly amusing. As we strolled along the Derry Wall, we felt like we were stepping back in time, through the decades and centuries of the rich history that created the Derry City and Ireland of today. We travelled from the city's inception, to its present day cultural charms. During this venture Eilish brought to life every landmark along the route.
We were particularly intrigued with our visit into St. Columb's Cathedral, where Eilish spontaneously burst into song. Her angelic version of 'Amazing Grace' was the finest we decided, that we'd ever heard. The cathedral is an architectural joy, filled with so many interesting artifacts.
Eilish is able to discuss and reflect upon "the troubles" honestly, and openly in a most unbiased manner. Although Eilish wasn't afraid to touch on Derry City and Ireland's difficult and troubled past, particularly in the north, she did not dwell on it. This history has to be discussed as it is metaphorically speaking part of the mosaic which makes Derry City and the whole of Northern Ireland, or Ireland in general, what it is today. The knowledge of this past makes one relish in the tranquil peace and abundant art and culture that Derry City, currently has to offer.
Eilish warmly and patiently carried us through our walking tour, making our group aware of not only the local history, but the many aspects of the local arts and culture, noted places of interest not included in the tour, and she even provided us with names and places of some lovely local dining and shopping spots (a couple of which would provide us a discount upon presentation of our tour tickets).
Our only regret that day was that the tour had to come to an end, as we felt we could have gone on with Eilish and Tours n' Trails, for hours and hours.
However, after a very satisfying and friendly meal, in a local spot, recommended by Eilish we ventured further on our own, to take in places that Eilish had pointed out, including a walk across the fascinating Peace Bridge, and whirlwind tour of the local shops.
We, myself, my daughter and her fiance had a remarkable day and we came to the joint conclusion that our walking tour with Tours n' Trails was far superior to any other guided tour that we'd ever experienced worldwide. We've all heartily and joyfully discussed returning to Derry at some point in the future, and taking another walk with Tours n' Trails.

“Winter Tour of Derry - An Outstanding Cultural Tour!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

As a group of young students from all over studying in Derry at the moment we organised a tour to get to know the place on a very cold December evening.
We had a fantastic well guided tour of the Walls and down into the famous Bogside from Finola from "Tours and Trails" and learned loads about the history of this great city from the city's birth to its present day status!
This truly is a wonderful city with so much history attached and so much culture routed throughout each nook and cranny which was brought to life by our wonderful tour guide!
The evening was completed with a wee hot whiskey with our Tour Guide!
We will be back again to see the so many cultural and interesting historic attractions Derry has to offer!
We would recommend this tour to all - young and old - families or couples - Everybody really! - What you do on the tour is up to you - how far or how fast you walk - your choice at a very reasonable price! Thanks to "Tours and Trails"

“An hour of fun learning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We had an amazing time on our tour around the Wall with Finola as our guide. Having studied about the history of Derry briefly some years back, I was very interested in visually putting the facts and the city together. We definitely got what we wanted, and then some. Very informative - the sort of things you'd never learn from textbooks coupled with a fantastic walk during one of the very rare days of real summer. Finola was lively, fun and very approachable. I love that she took a personal interest in us and that made the tour felt very personalized. She was patient with all of our questions and all I can say is that this was the highlight of our Derry trip.

“" Brilliant Walking Tour"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Recently had the pleasure of walking around Derry City with Finola Faller, our tour guide, and can truly say we had the most informative and pleasureable tour available anywhere in the world today. Fiona has personality to burn, together with a fantastic knowledge of the history of Derry and will give you an insight into Derry past and present that few could match. Derry is a beautiful city with a rich but at times sad history, and Finola is able to discuss that history in a very balanced way from both the nationalist and loyalist perspective. Thank you Finola for a memorable experience, and will certainly recommend your tour to my friends and anyone i know that is visiting Derry in the future.
