“Wine tasting evening - excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Booked the Foyle Valley wine tasting evening at Browns, £50 per person and very much worth every penny. We were served 6 courses and a selection of canopies to start. We had a different wine with each course, 2 whites, 2 reds, champagne reception and an Irish cream liquer with dessert. The food was amazing as always, the service was great, the staff are very warm and engaging and do their best to meet your every need. The guy from the FV wine club was very nice, explaining the different wines that accompanied each course.

I would definitely recommend this for a special occasion, good food and wine and a bit of craic. Some of the clientele are stuffy, but you'll get past that and have an amazing evening at Browns!

“Perfection on a plate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Went for early bird mid week . £18 3 courses .. Plenty of choice .. Had pigeon breast and smoked chicken for starters .. Devine .. Lovely pistachio bread to accompany . Mains we had were john dory from greencastle .. And steak .. Fab . Fish had cauliflower purée . Yum . Steak came with parmasan purée and tarragon gnocchi . All lovely well presented cooked to perfection .. Service was understated but spot on .. Desserts .. I'm not great dessert person but the raspberry mousse with toasted meringue .. Fresh raspberries and beautiful haselnut biscuit was light fresh tasting and lovely .. So was the pannacotta with strawberries .. .. Whilst there heard the head chef is in the next Great British menu on bbc .. Not surprised .. Really fab food .. And so reasonable .. Highly recommended .

“cookery demo and meal following”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We travelled up from Belfast. We had a cookery demo of the 5 course meal we were to eat that evening. There was three in our party and other groups also attended. Ian Orr the chef was great, very laid back with a very informative and relaxed cooking style. The food was superb, especially the crispy egg, the wine was first class, we sampled a 2008 Rioja, the selection of wine is impressive. Ian had used a balsamic reduction in the cooking demo and we were able to purchase a bottle of this on our way out. The service at our meal later that night was great, no effort was spared to make us feel at home. It was worth the drive to and from Belfast to attend this afternoon/evening event and we can recommend Browns to anyone who is looking for first class cuisine in informal surroundings.

“Nice touches, recommended!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Dined here with colleagues. They do a pretty cheap set menu, which is good value for money. They have an a la carte menu as well. Also some other menus like a 6 course 'gourmet' menu.
Food was really good value for money, and they have a pretty decent wine list too.
But the best thing was that they offered people in our group who did not have a starter a small sample of soup, and repeated the same procedure at desert. Only here everybody got a free scoop of popping-candy icecream. Those are nice touches and show that this place knows what they are doing. It's these small things that make you go back to a restaurant.
