Every time I travel to Derry I eat in Fitzroys, its become somewhat of a tradition. Im not a regular, usually dine there about 3-4 times a year.
The staff are very friendly, there is one particular member of staff who is very courteous and friendly upon arrival. They run a great deal where there is 30% off all food and drink all week, according to locals who I was dining with this has become the norm in Derry. I am almost sure last time I was there, that it was 50% off I would say this is a Monday / Tuesday deal. I suppose check their website or call up to confirm.
For food, I had the Escalope of Chicken with Peppered Sauce. My friends had a mixture of dishes. Usually I would go for an exciting dish not plain. I had made an attempt to order the Cajun Chicken Pitta Bread, I have an innate dislike for peppers and really hate them. If I didnt want peppers I would also not be able to have onion the waitress informed me, so basically I would be having a naked chicken pitta. This is a bit disappointing, it could not have been that hard to pick out peppers to keep me happy, or even easier chop up an onion. Either way my dish was still nice. I had the Garlic Potatoes which were gorgeous and the table ordered tabacco onions which were to die for.
Overall, it was 13£ a head for 5 people for a main and a drink each. Not too bad.
One small thing, when taking bookings it is terrible to be told a time that the table has to be vacated by. We booked for 6pm and told we would have to vacate by 7.30pm.
Its worth a try though and I will be back!
