the strand is a poorly run, unfriendly establishment with sub standard food and horrendous service
i took family here today and was actually embarassed due to the rubbish experience we had.
We went upstairs and waited twenty minutes for a memberof staff to come up to serve us. there were only two customers downstairs at lunchtime, so they weren't exactly run off their feet. in hindsight, everyone mustve gone to either the hop, a few doors down (excellent) or cafe creme ( also very good). i had to go back downstairs to ask someone to come up and serve us! the manageress and her mother (ex mangeress ) were both sitting doing nothing! probably wondering how they've managed to stay afloat with few customers. when a grumpy girl finally came upstairs, she served us,made ua wait for another 5 minutes while she went back downstairs to get change but forgot to charge us for sausage rolls in the microwave. we didnt make any fuss but just. asked her to take it out of the change. it would have been nice to have had the coffees brought over to our table but no, we had to keep getting up to collect those, condiments and napkins. the food was poor when we actually got it. the chocolate cake was dryer than the kalahari desert and the coffee was bland. did i mention that we were the only customers upstairs when we arrived and the only ones in the entire place when we left?! at lunchtime?! says it all really

We endeavour to train all staff to the highest levels, providing a
service which goes beyond our customer needs, ensuring that they always return. We aim to treat our customers as we would like to be treated; that is greeted by a friendly face!
All our staff including management are easily identifiable by uniform and unfortunately it appears you have incorrectly identified our management on your visit. We as management were not aware of your experience on the day in question and were unable to resolve these issues for you. We would welcome your return to our business to enjoy the service we have proudly been providing since 1930.
