Owner description: Castle Ward will take you on a journey of discovery. The 18th-century eccentric house with two distinctly different styles, classical and Gothic, will entice you to explore further. This truly beautiful 332-hectare (820-acre) walled demesne, with walking trails, exotic garden, stunning vistas and picturesque farmyard, will unlock your imagination through family history, leisure pursuits, events and industrial heritage. A children's pastimes centre and laundry room are a short walk from the house in the stableyard, alongside a gift shop, second-hand bookshop and tea-room.

“Slightly frustrated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

First visit and very impressed with scenery and staff but found signposts unclear, particularly where walks diverged. Also had young children and walked about 1km on a trail to then find a "enter field at own risk as bulls" sign and a "diversion" through a locked door which couldn't be taken (behind which was the 'Temple' I had diverted to see, completely hidden behind high walls). I then came across another diversion sign which pointed vaguely across a large field. Finally I come on Trip Advisor to find out some of the worldwide hit Game of Thrones was filmed there yet not a single sign was up to highlight what would be a really interesting fact for a lot of visitors.

“Very pleasant walking trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This was our first visit to Castle Ward but hopefully not the last. It was Good Friday but surprisingly and disappointingly Castle Ward House was closed. Despite this, my wife and I enjoyed our walk along the 3Km circular Castle Trail which starts at the Barn and Farmyard and takes you around the edge of Strangford Lough past the Boat House, Strangford Lough Yacht Club, Audley's Quay up to the very impressive Audley's Castle on the hill. Beautiful views all along the way make the walk very enjoyable. Don't forget to take your camera.

“Great walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

On a sunny day, this place is excellent to take the dog a walk, take in the sun and relax. Far away from Belfast to feel out of the city but close enough to be reachable within an hour.

“History and Exploration”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

We loved our experience at Castle Ward! My husband and I enjoyed our guided tour of the home as well as our self-exploration of all the grounds and Old Castle Ward. Everyone working there was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. At the risk of bringing out our nerdy side, we also liked seeing where the Winterfell Courtyard scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed.

“Great Day Out for Children”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Castleward is an absolutely fantastic place to spend time with younger children.
The playparks (there are 2) are perfect to keep them entertained - while there is also an indoor play area in one of the old stone barns.
The house itself is very nice, and the quirky stying makes the tour very worthwhile.
