Owner description: Castle Ward will take you on a journey of discovery. The 18th-century eccentric house with two distinctly different styles, classical and Gothic, will entice you to explore further. This truly beautiful 332-hectare (820-acre) walled demesne, with walking trails, exotic garden, stunning vistas and picturesque farmyard, will unlock your imagination through family history, leisure pursuits, events and industrial heritage. A children's pastimes centre and laundry room are a short walk from the house in the stableyard, alongside a gift shop, second-hand bookshop and tea-room.

“Comfortable house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

The tour of the House was very enjoyable and we were able to take some lovely photographs. The surrounding parkland is beautiful and there is so much space and no crowds- or did we just pick a good day? The only thing to spoil our visit was the tearoom. Although it was lunch time they couldn't serve soup because the manager wasn't there and although local ice cream was advertised there wasn't any. What I say is don't advertise the products you haven't got!!

“Camping”

I camped here on my own, it was very safe and comfortable. The house's history is very well told and I loved the park and activities available.

“Lovely Area”

Lovely setting for family picnics and walks. Large grounds, so doesn't feel crowded even at busy times.

“Loved Castleward”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Living between Belfast and Dublin we joined the National Trust and can thoroughly recommend it.
Visited Castle Ward on Strangford Lough last Sunday and loved it.Whilst the gardens are not as impressive as Mount Stewart on the other side of the Lough , the house at Castle Ward is equally beautiful and , in many ways, more interesting.
There is no doubt that the Guide on the day can make or break your visit and in Castle Ward, Pat combined the history of the house and estate with personal experiences of his years at the house and told of the Ward family's involvment through the generations.
Lovely courtyard where we had coffee and scones on a sunny Sunday morning.
The estate is under an hours lovely drive from Belfast and Strangford Lough itself is worth seeing. Cross over on the Ferry and have lunch at the very pretty Portaferry hotel, then drive up the other side of the Lough.
