“History in the middle of a golf game”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012

I am not a fan of golf, haha, however this friary has a special feeling indeed. It is utterly beautiful and well perserved with old headstones and so much to learn. Even though it is beside a road the trees around it muffle the sound and on a dry day the main church area, with it's grass floor is a terribly evocative and romantic. I love it.

“A quiet place where history comes alive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

Any time I have gone here, there is never another soul around. The ancient ruin of the friary is amazing! It is in such a peaceful setting and the gravestones (some from at least the 1500's) are amazing...you can't help put notice and nod in respect to the graves of the unknown sailors from world war II that washed up on nearby Ballycastle strand. Absolutely amazing place! Very tight parking spot though:)

“Historical”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

This is a quaint attractraction set off the main road. It is a deserted ruin with a number of war graves from both the 1st and 2nd World Wars and at which an annual Remembrance Service is held after the main Cenotaph service for the town. It is a good place for the kids to explore and play

“Abbey ruins within easy walk of Ballycastle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2009

Parking area is full with three cars in it, however the main road is straight here and parking on it is reasonably safe. Site is bounded on three sides by Ballycastle Golf course. The ruins are under government care and access is good for persons of all mobility. The building itself is surrounded by a graveyard and contains some war graves from the first and second world wars. When the grass is long kids have a great time falling about on it and because it is surrounded by a wall reasonably safe to let kids run about. It is possible for kids to climb up to a height from which they would get injured if they fell so watch out! Peaceful place on the edge of Ballycastle.
