“Excellent park but shame about the cafe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

I am writing this review here as there does not appear to be a separate page for The Stables Cafe within the Grounds of the park. The park itself is beautiful, well maintained ( shame about the litter louts though!) and we happened to be there on the same day as The Belfast City Council had organised a family fun day. Fantastic fun, thank you.
However the cafe was very poor... The had a sign up advertising 'vegetable broth' and a menu on the wall listing stew and soup as standard on their menu. However when we tried to order both we were told these weren't available in the summer. So why advertise it then? We were overcharged by £5.00. ( Charged £24 for a child's cheese sandwich, a chicken sandwich and a baked potato with tuna with four soft drinks which seemed excessive, should have been £19) When we queried this mistake we were challenged by their very rude staff and refused to accept our point of view. Even when we presented them with an itemised bill detailing their mistake we were met with rude behaviour. Was a pity as it was a lovely day otherwise

“Everything's coming up roses”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park isn't anything special in winter, but in July when the roses are in full bloom it is wonderful. I went to Rose Week twice this year. The hot summer had brought out the smell of the rose gardens and the whole park seemed to be perfumed. The information on the rose show isn't great - I kept asking people where the international rose exhibition was and they didn't seem to know, but the rose gardens are lovely and well worth a visit when the show isn't on.

“Love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

As a local, I love going to this park - especially when the roses are in full bloom! Great for the kids and dog walking, or for spending an afternoon with a picnic! It's a nice escape for the city centre without driving for ages to get to a country park or beach!

“Amazing display of roses”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

This is a must see for anyone visiting Belfast in mid July . The rose trials themselves mean the park is very busy but there are extra car parks. At this time there are lots of events and activities suited to all ages. After the trials are over the roses are still there and the park itself is full of beautiful woodland and lawns sweeping down to the River Lagan where one can walk along the tow path for miles.
