“Great little bistro within walking distance from our house: what's not to like!”
We visited The Shed for the third time last Friday evening and enjoyed yet another delicious meal, warm, friendly and efficient service and all in all had a lovely evening. On my very first visit back in January, the restaurant layout seemed a bit cramped as the dining room is effectively a long galley affair, however, subsequent visits have given way to an appreciation of the intimate, cosy ambience that lends itself equally well to dining a deux or in larger groups.
Once again, I plumped for the fish special which was hake accompanied by spinach, ribbon courgettes and chargrilled potatoes. The dish originally came with a cream sauce, however, I can't tolerate cream or butter and the chef proffered a lovely, fresh vinagrette sauce which complemented the fish perfectly. The hake was cooked to perfection - moist and full of flavour. In fact, it was so good that I didn't want to stop eating it and unlike other meals following starters etc, I was comfortably sated as opposed to being horribly full afterwards.
My husband had chicken for his main course which he pronounced "very good" and was very pleased with his choice of starter - smoked salmon but accompanied with various garnishes etc, which made a pleasant and interesting change from the run-of-the mill brown bread, lettuce leaves and slice of lemon treatment experienced in so many places elsewhere. We had three courses, pre-dinner drinks and a bottle of wine and the total bill came to just over £70 - excellent value for money, in our opinion especially compared with other city centre venues. The menu isn't extensive, which is a blessing as the greater variety of dishes, the less chance that anything will be cooked properly in addition to being a boon for indecisive types like me!
Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed dining experience and plan on returning regularly. Keep up the good work, Eithne and staff!

Thank you very much for your kind comments and review. We appreciate you sharing your feedback with us! For all of us at Shed, your continuing visits are the ultimate guest compliment, and for that I thank you. Head Chef Gilles Willaume and his kitchen team are completely focused on food that is fresh and delicious. In fact, the only freezer at Shed is a small, under counter unit for ice cream, only! Warm, friendly, and efficient service - as well as good value - are also very important characteristic of the Shed Experience. Thank you again, and we look forward to serving you on your next visit to Shed! Eithne
