Shanless' review of 16/12/12 hit the nail on the head. The parking situation has become a joke in the region of Odyssey and Queens Rd. Some miserable jobsworth in the Harbour Commission obviously took a dislike to patrons parking for free up and down the road outside H&W shipyards and this length of road that once availed concert, carnival and cinema goers a rare treat of free parking is now painted with double yellow lines from Odyssey to the Dee Street roundabout. Oh, and a dedicated new cycle lane now completes this act of generosity from the Harbour Commission except that all cyclists Ive seen continue to ride either on the footpath or the road! but yep, that's bureaucracy for you...if you cannot charge 'em to park then clamp if they do. Odyssey car park has just 2 exits from it's facility, another well thought out bit of planning by developers so after a well-attended show allow up to an hour for getting out of the car park.
Sat in the raised seating level in the Odyssey and have never encountered such uncomfortable seating for a show anywhere else. Seats were tatty, hard and narrow, if you are a large person you'll be more comfortable sitting on the floor. Prices for drinks are extortionate - £2.95 for a medium size cup of coke.
The whole complex is going to seed fast. The Spanish Tapas restaurant has been closed for ages and the resident Pizza Hut is absolutely dire. My pizza dripped orange coloured oil when I picked a slice up, more oil on the plate than pizza which shows they are using processed mozzarella cheese and not fresh. Salad bar was an unholy mess and hordes of greedy, noisy kids swarmed around the serve yourself ice-cream machine. Pizza Hut has certainly died a death.
Used to be a venue to look forward to attending but now needs help.
