“Great place to stay in Belfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We stayed here for just one night as we headed for Dublin the next day. Great location close to services and the train station. It's also just around the corner from the local train.
Clean hotel with great service. The made-to-order breakfast in the morning was amazing and one of our best meals on the trip, worth the stay alone.
The room we had was in the annex, so a seperate building and some stairs. The room was fine for the night, but I would upgrade to the next level if staying for any longer.

Would highly recommend this location and the reviews about it are not lying.

Room Tip: If staying for more than one night, book a deluxe or signature room

I had been searching for a hotel for a first time trip to Belfast for my boyfriend and I and this came up on top in terms of value for money and service, and it lived up to it's reputation. I can't fault this hotel at all. It's quiet, comfortable, clean, modern, and the beds are super comfy. It's in a great location, lots of bars & restaurants nearby and only a 10min walk to the city centre.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. They gave us some good recommendations for restaurants nearby and tours. We ate at Scalini's on the first night. It's a very busy Italian restaurant around the corner. It has a really good atmosphere, the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. We also did a Paddy Campbell Black Cab Tour which was recommended by the hotel, they also helped us book at very short notice. The tour was very interesting, our guide Tom was brilliant, he had lots of personal stories which added a more personal insight into the tour.
Overall a great hotel, I will definitely return.

My husband and I stayed at the Tara Lodge Oct 5/6. We had a wonderful experience in Belfast from the taxi driver who helped us find Tara (1000 thank yous aren't enough!) to Dave at the front desk who we bothered with many questions, but he suggested terrific places to go, that lead to a magical day at Madden's Bar!!! Thank you Dave!
As for Tara itself, the room was wonderful, and I think one of, if not the most comfortable bed we had in our 2 weeks in Ireland! The location made it pretty easy to walk to the town centre, and breakfast in the front room was a great way to start the day.

We were part of a group touring Ireland (north and south) by car. On arrival I wasn't too impressed by the street. The free car park was quite small but we all managed to squeeze in and the gate was shut behind us. First impression of the hotel was good and the staff were helpful. We had a room in the annexe on the first floor (no lift) overlooking the street. The room was clean and attractive with most of the usual amenities. There is no bar or restaurant but plenty of eating houses within easy walking distance. Our bed was comfortable but the duvet was too hot as the weather was warm for October. Unfortunately we were woken about 1 am by shouting in the street which went on for a while. Had to shut the windows to deaden the noise. The staff say it's probably students from the nearby University. Breakfast was excellent and the staff took our order and were very attentive. Disappointingly the WiFi wasn't working for the whole of our visit, not the fault of the Hotel but I think they were let down by BT. I hear they are now upgrading to fibre broadband. There may have been one or two annoyances at Tara Lodge but the helpful and friendly staff made our stay very enjoyable.

The team at Tara Lodge were outstanding from booking to check out, doing everything possible to ensure we had a great time in Belfast as well as at Tara Lodge. From arranging extras such as champagne on arrival, to advice on what to see and do, booking taxis, everything was done with a smile and good humour and nothing was too much trouble. Ciara deserves special praise. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with tea/coffee facilities, iron and ironing board and even complementary in-room WiFi, normally an extra in many hotels. Breakfast was also outstanding in quality and service. The lack of a restaurant or bar wasn't an issue with so many alternatives available close by and in fact returning to a peaceful haven after an evening of Belfast's lively nightlife is a positive.

We arrived at Tara Lodge after traveling through Northern Ireland via car. Although other reviews note that the parking was insufficient, I didn't find that to be true. When you get there, you simply park and then spend the rest of your time on rail or by walking. Tara House is well located - very near train station, restaurants, etc.

Breakfast was included and was delicious! Not a buffet style - servers took orders for breakfast.

Wifi was spotty - but we found that to be true across Ireland and Northern Ireland for the most part.

The only thing I would suggest is when you make your reservation request a room in the main building. There is a small add-on building that has three rooms in it on ground floor. Didn't feel really secure. We also had a really surprising issue with one of our bathrooms. (We had two rooms.) In the middle of the night, there was a lot of water that was coming out of a sprinkler type device above the shower. We notified the front desk and a handyman came and repaired. Unfortunately also left a mess that we cleaned up on our own. We just notified the front desk the next morning. They were very apologetic.

All in all, we enjoyed our time at Tara. Not super fond of Belfast generally. Not a big city thing - we do travel to larger cities frequently.

Dear Lynda T

Thank you for your review of your stay with us in September. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Tara Lodge.

We do offer a limited amount of free car parking spaces to our guests and I’m very pleased you were able to use the car park. As you confirmed we are really well located as we are just minutes from Queens University, the Ulster Museum, only ten minutes walk from Belfast City hall and only two train stops from Titanic Belfast. I’ll pass on your comments to the breakfast chef – he’ll be delighted that you enjoyed the delicious breakfast!

I must apologise for the spotty WiFi coverage. Unfortunately we have been having problems with our broadband connection due to a problem with the telephone line. I have been reassured by our provider that our upgrade to fibre broadband on Wednesday 23 October 2013 will solve our current problem and improve the WiFi speed significantly. I am looking forward to providing our guests with super fast download speeds of up to 70MG later this week.

I would assure you and any prospective guests that our property is completely secure and we take the safety of our guests very seriously. No one can access any of our buildings without a key or key card except into the main reception area which is staffed 24/7. Unfortunately during your stay there was a leak in the bathroom above your bathroom which, as you say, was fixed as soon as our receptionist was made aware of it. These things do happen from time to time but I’m sorry it happened during your stay.

Finally thanks again for staying with us. I’m disappointed you didn’t fall in love with Belfast - Belfast is a small city but we think small is beautiful!

Kind Regards

Nora Douds
