“Good way to spend free hour in Belfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2015 NEW via mobile

There are 3 tours of Belfast City Hall on weekdays - 11am, 2pm and 3pm - free and on a first come first served basis. Just ask at the reception desk and they will sort you out with a ticket. We had the lovely Cindy to take us around - easy to hear and listen to, informative, more than willing to answer questions and never lost for an answer. Lovely building, typical of its period - better than I imagined it would be. Tour takes in council chamber, great hall etc. Marble work is amazing. And a nice cup of tea with raspberry and white chocolate scone in the cafe to finish it off!

“A Beautiful and interesting Building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2015 NEW

The big attraction in Belfast is, of course, the Titanic Centre, but City Hall is also a venue to be visited because of its architecture, its history and its political position in the city. It's not a walk in venue - there are scheduled escorted tours and these are free. You will be given a historical background and this will be slightly nuanced depending on the guide and their concept of history. On the tour I joined, the guide was from the loyalist community and shaped their stories from that perspective. One of the big attractions is the council chamber where you can sit on the council benches and the Lord Mayors chair. Additionally, you visit the dressing chamber and can be fitted out in ceremonial robes for a photo if you wish. The visit last about one hour and is well worth the time.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2015

Went for the free 11am tour and it exceeded my expectations. The tour guide was very informative and willing to answer all our questions. She took us to the upstairs no public access areas and showed us things you usually only see on TV. Being allowed to sit in the Lord Mayors chair was an honor and rare opportunity. Putting on the council robe was surreal. The building itself is just beautiful to look at with their stained glass windows and marble walls everywhere. Being allowed to take pictures as you walked along was nice so I could show my family when I got home. The free booklet at the end is a perfect keepsake of your experience. If you have an hour I highly recommend it.
