We visited Swansea from Australia during the UK school term. This enabled us to take advantage of discounted riding lessons purchased online before we arrived. We found the staff to be very helpful when arranging the lesson times and allowed us to move one lesson on the day (even though there is a 24 hour cancellation policy) due to extreme bad weather.
We booked five 2 hour sessions for myself and our 2 girls (aged 11 and 9). Our plan was to have a one hour lesson followed by a one hour hack, however, we agreed to be flexible and leave the hacks until our riding improved. I have only ridden a few times in my life and have never had a lesson. Our girls had had a few lessons before but were probably still beginners (although they may not have counted themselves as such).
The location is beautiful and the buildings have a lot of character. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed and given the riding helmets. We were instructed by Amy who we thought did a great job. Our girls rode Nibbles and Ozzie and I rode Raffles. All of our riding improved heaps and by the end of the five days we were all trotting comfortably. Another day and the girls would have been cantering.
Our experience was very positive. That said, I thought that the training yard was a bit grotty and I did not like having to ride on the road before hacks but our girls did not seem to notice the yard and did not mind riding on the road.
We (especially the girls) loved the riding experience and will hopefully do it again when we are next in Swansea. We would recommend this activity to others.
