“Three cliffs valley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

The castle itself is little more than a wall and ruined gatehouse, certainly nothing much to entertain a die-hard welsh castle fan.. The walk to it and onward to the three cliffs bay and beyond however is really lovely. We were particularly blessed to visit the bay on a high tide when the river was in flood and the bay was almost lagoon like. It did make crossing the stream difficult until the stepping stones became uncovered again

“A timeless and breathtaking view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

One way to get to the castle is from Parkmill (on the south Gower Road - A4118). You will be able to park in either the Gower Heritage Centre's car park or Shepherd's Stores car park. If it's the latter, buy one of their ice creams before you start your walk!
Cross the road opposite Shepherd's and you'll come to a wooden bridge which leads you up through woods to the top of the hill - take your time, you'll need it as its fairly challenging but not undoable.
Pennard Castle still stands proud on top of the hill that looks down onto what has to be the most breathtaking view in the world. On the valley floor, you'll see the Ilston River meandering its way to the sea, maybe canoists paddling up the river, ponies grazing as if they have forever to do so and the three cliffs standing defiant in their beauty. Because the castle is located on a huge sand dune, you can walk (or run) down what is known locally as the 'Elephant Walk' and reach the valley floor in one piece. Should you do this, look back up at the castle and admire the engineering and design skills of its builders. the walk to three cliffs from here is lovely, you have the river running beside you all the way and it gives you chance to absorb the whole environment at a pace to suit you.

“WHAT A VIEW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Well worth going up to the castle just to see the view. It is a beautiful vista. Pobbles Bay can be seen and Three Cliffs Bay. Well worth a visit but be prepared to walk.

“Follow the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

The trek to Pennard Castle is an incredibly beautiful walk. Follow the river out to Three Cliffs Bay, bask in its stunning beauty, and then climb the stairs up to the top of the cliffs and follow the path to the castle. This was one of my favorite hikes in Wales!

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

The walk from the car park at Pennard Point along the cliff top in the direction of Oxwich is outstanding. Then as the path moves inland you are suddenly aware of the Oxwich Bay and the famous three cliffs just below you.
Moving on down the sandy path leads you to the Pennard Castle which is now in ruins. However, the location is breathtaking and you can readily appreciate why the castle was erected there. Unfortunately, strong winds and sand destroyed the illusion of the owners and they soon moved away.
A great day out, and lots of exercise. Not recommended for those with walking limitations
