“Competition Winner!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

Their Facebook page had a short-notice Christmas competition for a same-day one night double room, which I was lucky enough to win. Luke (reception) had arranged a smooth late arrival for me and given that Swansea was suffering from a storm warning and under hail and severe rain, the hotel was the perfect escape!

The main entrance was decked out with tree for Christmas, warm and in "night mode" - softly lit and welcoming on a cold December evening. My room was super toasty, curtains already closed and soft lights already on, it was a real romantic excitement for me and my partner.

My room was larger than others I had stayed in with a double-bed, sideboard and separate writing table. Although on a front corner on the main road and a side road, the windows were well insulated and I couldn't recall any road noise. Same in the morning, could have slept in till lunch time it was so relaxing. The ensuite you could describe as "dated" or perhaps psychedelic with its hexagonal-patterned tiles on the ceiling! Decor aside, the toilet, sink and bath/shower were all impeccably clean. Bear in mind when I book I usually find an online bargain price so for me it's a hidden gem for a central (to the Kingsway, Wind Street, Waterfront Winterland, SA1 etc) hotel which is comfortable, clean and served by attentive staff. Looking forward to my next stay!

Room Tip: Room 19 (second floor) is spacious and attractively decorated.

Have just returned from a single night stay in a double room at Windsor Lodge, our room was warm, clean and, apart from the bed, fairly comfortable....(we prefer softer mattresses). Other than that, the staff were friendly and the continental breakfast was fine. Great value at £40.50 and yes, if in Swansea again....we'd certainly have no hesitation in staying there for a night again.
ps...also pleased with their off-road parking availability.

Allocated Room 20 at top of house up 7 flights of narrow stairs. Had a bit of a struggle with the cases. It is an attic room. The sloping roof means that whoever is sleeping on right hand side has to crawl into bed.

Wash hand basin in bedroom.Shower in glass-fronted cubicle in bedroom Toilet in small cubicle. Wide wardrobe which proved to be 90% full of stored items leaving a narrow space for hanging coats. No obvious signs of dirt but room had a musty smell. Tiny telly. Scaffolding at front of building which I assume is temporary although reviews from 2 years ago mention it!

Bed comfortable. Bedroom at back of house and quiet. Staff friendly, Continental breakfast more substantial than expected. and good quality. Wifi & On-site car parking

Room Tip: Stairs a stiff climb to top floors with luggage. Rooms at back of hotel quiet

I found myself in Swansea (over 200 miles from home) with nowhere to stay. Luke from the Windsor Lodge Hotel could not have been more helpful. He spent ages calming me and trying to find me another hotel - his hotel was fully booked. Excellent customer service.

A few minutes walk from the city centre and friendly efficient reception staff on check in and check out.Single room s small and bath but no shower. Bathroom had window with broken blind which almost stopped the outside from looking in. Tv is minute in size but bed was comfortable. Traffic noise was obvious so needs double glazing. Breakfast is cereal and orange juice.

Room Tip: Difficult as no double glazing so traffic noise will be appparent

My experience follows that of other reviewers. Proprietor a lovely bloke, and had stayed up more then an hour beyond the nine pm checking in deadline, having phoned me earlier to find out my arrival time. I left too early to see him or any other staff again, so I probably missed out on more friendliness. But my room was a bit of a disappointment - clean, but a bit down at heel. The shower was frankly a bit seedy in a loose-taps-plenty-of-sealant-drippy-door kind of way, and one bedside bulb didn't work and the other shade was battered and torn. The strength of the digital signal made the TV unwatchable, and my phone didn't detect any wi-fi. Perhaps my expectations had been set by the supposed reduction in the room price on hotels.com from £132 to £50 - strange, when on the hotel's own site (which I hadn't checked - a lesson learned...) a single room is only £45 and the double that I had was £60. It was this sleight of hand, bordering on dishonesty, which tipped me in to leaving this review - that, and the absence of a workable TV and wi-fi, both of which were flagged as on offer. So having deliberately opted for the independent sector for this visit, next time I am likely to be tempted by the faceless corporates. Because sometimes, "friendly" is not enough on its own. But the bed was dead comfortable...
