Myself and husband stayed her for 2 nights In september 2013 as we were settling our daughter into her halls at Swansea university the owners were very friendly and made us very welcome the room was spotless and vleaned every day and our shared bathroom was spotless which was a worry for me the breakfast was lovely with a very good choice we will be staying again but in an en suit room and only for the fact some one in b&b who was using same bathroom as us didn't flush the toilet every time they used it which is no fault of the owners cleanliness we walked into town both nights and it was not to bad a walk

This was booked last minute and I was a bit worried that it might be poor as it was one of the few remaining B&B's left that had room for 3 people. But it was surprisingly nice, we were greeted at the front door and as my daughter had 3 suitcases and a huge trunk they were very accomodating and they ended up putting it in their kitchen. The only real downside to this B&B is the several flights of stairs you have to go up to get to your room if its at the top. But the room was just the right size for us and with very clean floors and beds, these were cleaned everyday, but the room was quite hot and the windows had to be opened. The view was very beautiful of the beach which is right opposite across the road. Another downside would be having to go down to the second or first floors to use the tiny bathroom with a small shower, but to be honest if you're staying for only a few days then you don't need a massive shower. The breakfast was nice and varied with an option of getting cockles and laverbread. It was a trek to get to the city centre but a bus or cab fare are cheap enough and easy to find. Overall I think this B&B is a great little place and I would definately be booking here again.

Room Tip: The front rooms have a great view of the ocean but are quite noisy with the main road being just out...

Overall, I'd say that this guest house was better than average, but it depends on who the other guests are. On my first night, I wasn't happy with the door-slamming and loud chatter from a group of orientals, nor could I figure out why someone repeatedly tried to open my door with their key... and a bit of brute force... despite being told to clear off! Then there was the guy giving enormous heart-wrenching groans all night... and someone who kept their television on all night. On the other hand, a quiet night makes it quite a pleasant place to stay, given its fairly low price. While the breakfast choice is quite wide and imaginative (including laverbread and cockles!), I felt that the potion size was a bit small. Great location, with miles of sandy beach just across the road, and for the record, you really can see Devon!

I thought it the fairest way to review this B&B ...

The pros:

- the view from the front rooms is amazing - right over the seafront so you can happily watch the tide come in and out ... Truly panoramic.

- and if you're exploring the area, the Devon View is good too ... Easy access back to the M4, and into Mumbles

- we were warmly welcomed and the staff were most friendly ... recommending nearby restaurants, immediately dealing with faults (a broken shower)

- there are restaurants within an easy walk ... the Thai next door has good reviews, and there's an Italian restaurant and Indian ones too.

- it is a drive into town, but the parking there is easy, even on a Saturday night. Or get a taxi.

The Cons:

- the front rooms are noisy. I mean, NOISY!!!!! There's a busy four-lane road right outside, and the traffic is pretty constant. We were there in a heat wave, and, with one window open, we had to put the subtitles on the TV. It was that bad. Then, on the Sunday night, the Thai place next door let rip with the live music. At which point my friend and I just had to laugh. To be fair, the B&B owners are doing all they can to stop the music disturbance, so this will be less of a problem in the future ... Hopefully ...

- the en-suite bathroom was really tiny ... No window and no ventilation. And plastic. The shower didn't work ... No hot water. The owners will have fixed this by now, though. There was a nice shower room down the corridor, which we used.

- the Devon View isn't in a nice part of town. I never felt unsafe, but it is a bit rundown.

- the breakfast was nothing special. Served with a friendly smile, but I didn't look forward to the food.

My companion said she could forgive this B&B everything for the view. She so loved looking out of the window, it made her holiday. So there you go. For me, it was way too noisy, and, although I have fond memories of our visit, I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: For the view, go for the front. For sleep, you need a room away from the road.

Quite inexpensive (I paid 45 GBP for a single) but there are reasons for this:

- Pathetic shower - not much more than a dribble

- Paper thin walls - woken up in middle of night by very noise sex nearby

- Bathroom is the size of a closet - have to squeeze past toliet to get in

- No off street parking

- Quite a long walk to down town

- Pretty basic breakfast

we thank you for spending the time doing a review. unfortunately you said nothing to us at any time during your several days stay regarding the shower. co-incidentaly someone else had a problem with shower pressure at the same time and it turns out that the water pressure feeding us was low. regrettably we can do nothing about this. with respect to the carnal noise you were disturbed by we can assure you there are 2 brick walls between your room and any other room so we can only assume the noise was so loud that it was going to penetrate anything, and our walls are not as paper thin as you poetically state.
Unfortunately the walk into town is 10-12 minutes which is too much for some people but a taxi at only £4 would have saved the tireness and inconvenience you felt. if you had asked we would have been more than happy to book you one to have saved on your inconvenience of a walk to town.
We have a large council run off street carpark just 1-2 minutes walk from us. unfortunately this is sometimes too much for people with walking difficulties and the nearest parking, just 30 seconds from our front door, is limited to free overnight from 4pm through to 11am. this is sometimes inconvenient for some guests but the car park is always available.
we are somewhat confused by your comment regarding breakfast being pretty basic. we have always had extremely good, positive and complementary reviews regarding our breakfast quality and variety. possibly if you could expand in an email we may be able to shed some light on what went wrong for you at breakfast. we would be more than happy to send you a pdf of, what we think, our comprehensive menu.
All our room pictures are a true reflection of our products and we regret that you did not notice that the en-suite for that double is quite small, a somewhat misrepresentation of it being the size of a closet in your review.
nevertheless we do accept that these are your views and we regret that we clearly were inadequate in so many areas for your expectations.

The owners took a booking for nine cyclists and promised the bikes would be able to be stored securely. Upon arrival we were given grief about how much space the bikes would take up: "it was quiet when you booked but it is busy now".

Our group went out for the evening and made the grievous error of leaving a window open. This led to two duvets and one towel getting wet. Upon returning in twos and threes, the owner stood by the entrance and appeared to attempt to get a rise from each person in turn, despite numerous apologies and offers to replace the damp items. She proceeded to come to the room to remonstrate further. When asked why she was in the room, we were told there had been a complaint from up the corridor. When it was pointed out that the only other person along the corridor was with us, she instructed us all to leave and called the police. The police were as mystified as us - the riot van wasn't necessary - but they were incredibly helpful in finding us bike storage and another place to stay. The owners even hassled the police for being too slow in finding us other accommodation at midnight in the pouring rain. They then swore at us as we passed the following day.

As a b&b, it's functional but no more - certainly not elegant. I would not recommend staying here due to malicious and ignorant owners.

Room Tip: The triple single room on the top floor is like a furnace. Open the window at your peril!

I have stayed at the Devon View for just under a week whilst on business two years on the trot and what a lovely place it is. On both my visits I have been working at university graduations and it is a wonderful little place to come back to each evening, with beautiful views over the bay and a charming welcome from Tony and Alison. There is free wifi available in the downstairs lounge which looks out to the beach and the bacon sandwiches in the morning always saw me through a long day at work. I hope to return for pleasure next time! Thank you so much to both of you. I am cherishing that Devon View pen!

Room Tip: Although there is no private bathroom, a room with a sea view is lovely!
