“Helpful staff, comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for a week during a conference.

Food excellent, particularly enjoyed fresh pancakes for breakfast. Didn't want full English but had plenty of other choices.

Room comfortable albeit a little cool at times - heating operated by key card so goes off when you remove card when you leave the room.

Had a room that faced inner courtyard so was quiet, suspect rooms at front of hotel more noisy particularly at weekends - hotel opposite a Witherspoons pub. Walls also a little thin so would also expect disturbance if there were late nighters.

Gym and pool really nice - impressed by gym equipment, better than some hotels I have stayed at.

Close to shopping centre with lots of places to eat and drink nearby - large glass of wine nearly £6 in the hotel!

Staff always helpful and concerned with well being. Respond efficiently to request and nothing appeared to be too much bother.

Would recommend this hotel, although not the cheapest in the area, but you get what you pay for, particularly during the week for a quiet space and during weekends if you want easy access to shopping and bars.

Went to Cardiff for a long week end and booked the Park Plaza hotel as its own very central and has its own spa facility.

The hotel is great: modern, clean, spotless bathroom. Dont be put off by the grin exterior.
Breakfast is as expected for this category - good but not overwhelming.
Very good bed. Busy and lively bar downstair - really nice (good mojito!) but maybe ask for a room on 2nd floor or above if you want peace and quiet :)
However don't expect a good view - in front of a car park (i could see my own car!)
But really central location, within minutes of town centre, castle and park.

The spa was however a little disappointing. Treatment were fine and the swimming pool is really nice.
But the whole experience was let down by:
- changing rooms on a different floor so you have to pass by the reception in your bathrobe to have your treatment (not really nice and relaxing)
-  a particularly unimpressive lunch (part of the spa day package) served in the "spa dinning room": a dark room with no windows, no music, no water (apparently i should have help my self to the fruit juices in the mini bar but i don't like fruit juices and there was no water).
I was on my own and it felt like a prison. Really bad experience. I rush my food (very average club sandwich with no side) to leave this room asap.

I try to have my food somewhere else but was told it was not possible.
I mentionned it again to the spa reception on leaving and was told that i was not the first one complaining but they had to make a choice between light in the dinning room and light in the relaxation area.

But overall good stay.

We have stayed here each time we visit Cardiff. The location is great the rooms, cleanliness and the service are excellent. I have reviewed it before and the standard remains high. There are no movie channels on the TV (but free wi-fi) and the parking is across the road in a public car park but the benefits out weigh these minor niggles.

We have never had breakfast in the hotel always using one of the local coffee shops nearby but the bar is lively and not too expensive.

Myself and my husband stay at The Park Plaza Hotel in Cardiff a few times a year visiting family and each time we are very pleased with the level of service provided. The rooms are clean, modern in design and spacious and I recommend upgrading to one of the larger rooms if you can for additional space. We have enjoyed several meals at the restaurant and the gym and pool are clean and well equipped. The lobby is a great place to hang out and good for people watching. I hightly recommend this hotel.

My partner and I have recently had the pleasure of staying in this hotel on Saturday 10th November. The hotel is close to the City Centre, with the car park opposite. Yes, the parking is expensive, however ensure that you get your ticket validated at reception when you check out to gain a 20% discount. Anyway enough about the parking. It was my birthday weekend and upon check in, we were automatically upgraded from a superior room, courtesy of the hotel - we were pre warned that it could be noisy at night, due to there being a few bars opposite, but this did not affect us. We stayed in room 123, where my boyfriend, proposed to me, so it was even more perfect. We did not have the pleasure of dining in the restaurant, but we did use the hotel bar. This can be busy, but the hotel lobby offers plenty of seating. The hotel is amazing, the furniture is modern, the bed is huge and the bathroom is luxurious. Enjoy the stay, don't listen to people who moan. If you want peace and quiet go and stay in the countryside, not the city centre. Finally, I would like to thank the lady on reception for her hospitality, throughout our stay.

Stayed recently at Cardiff's Park Plaza thought it was a tad over priced before our stay but it soon became clear that this is a quality Hotel. The reception staff were very friendly and explained where to go in Cardiff as it was our 1st visit to this City. The location was ideal for shopping and the rooms have a very modern but in the same time homely feeling. We had a meal in the restaurant which has a very nice and the setup within that area give us ample space which is important to us. Following dinner we went to the in house night club which was also very modern and had fab music that evening. In the morning we visited the pool and gym area, this was a surprise as 1st impressions of the Hotel don't lead you to think these existed! It's like a tardis. Happy to praise this wonderful Hotel and its very pleasant staff that we encountered during our stay. It made a big difference and we didn't expect it on our 1st visit to Wales!

This is a converted ex-Council block of offices - and looks it, on a disappointing & dirty street frontage. The entrance is disappointing, but internally the re-design is pleasing, although somewhat narrow around the frontal area. There is no porterage facility for guests luggage, but the young, female reception staff quickly turned out to help.
Our exec room was fair value: spacious & roomy, with large comfy bed.
The bar and dining area is modern and pleasant, staffed by very willing young staff. The breakfast buffet was excellent, supervised by very attentive management.
The hotel appeals to young local people, enjoying the bar & restaurant facilites.
Outside, at weekends, the street is alive with young people streaming from bar to bar - just across from the hotel. A strong police presence kept things calm, more or less, shepherding 'young things' into taxi's & off the streets. Not threatening, just noisy & interesting.
Warning: the NCP car park across from the hotel is very expensive, even with the hotel discount: around £18 per night?

Room Tip: Most rooms are set in a maze of ex-council office design buildings. certainly chose an exec room if...
