Wonderful! My son and I spent only one day/night at Jolyons as we attented a large sport event in Cardiff. But long enough to teel everyone who wants to listen: Jolyons was the perfect place to stay - and the atmosphere! A nice classic contrast to the modern harbour front. This hotel is recommended for service, rooms and breakfast - and the feeling os being taken care of.

We stayed at Jolyon's on the weekend and had a brilliant time. The room we stayed in was beautiful inside and had an exceptional view of the Cardiff Bay and courtyard.

The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. You cant beat the location of Jolyon's, as it was just a 2min walk to basically anywhere at the Bay. One of the best things though has got to be their bar downstairs. We came back after dinner and it was a great place to relax for a few drinks. (bit crowded sure, but then it was a Friday night!).

I'd recommend Jolyon's to anyone looking for a hotel that has a more personal and friendly touch; somewhere special. There were roadworks going on at the time of our stay which restricted parking (and i can see how parking could be an issue), but as we didnt have a car it didnt bother us in the slightest!

Lovely hotel, full of charm and smart touches. The owner went out of his way to help out with finding a restaurant, was flexible with our check out and even gave us use of the bar to ourselves whilst waiting for our train out of Cardiff. The room was exceptional and far exceeds anything I've seen in this price range. Brilliant.

If you use the minute and poorly laid out hotel parking lot you have to lug your bags down slippery stairs into the basement, through the bar and up a narrow staircase to the hall. Staff seemed vaguely surprised to see guests and there was little welcome, only a sense of having inconvenienced the management. The bar is the only real place to sit. It is dark, and rather dingy and tired looking, but has a friendly host and hostess. Rooms are pleasant but there is no house phone for outgoing calls and there are no phones in the rooms.
Quirky, yes and maybe charming on a good day. Definitely not a place for business travellers but connoisseurs of Fawlty Towers may feel right at home. I would not call this a boutique hotel. It feels like a an old bed and breakfast that has been imaginatively renovated with a bar/ breakfast room in the basement but where the management then lost interest. The location directly across from the Millenium Centre is great.

  • Liked — rooms were pleasant and location good
  • Disliked — management attitude, parking, cleanliness, facilities
  • Tips/Secrets: — there are many pleasant places to stay in Cardiff, this could easily become one of them but check current reviews
