If you use the minute and poorly laid out hotel parking lot you have to lug your bags down slippery stairs into the basement, through the bar and up a narrow staircase to the hall. Staff seemed vaguely surprised to see guests and there was little welcome, only a sense of having inconvenienced the management. The bar is the only real place to sit. It is dark, and rather dingy and tired looking, but has a friendly host and hostess. Rooms are pleasant but there is no house phone for outgoing calls and there are no phones in the rooms.
Quirky, yes and maybe charming on a good day. Definitely not a place for business travellers but connoisseurs of Fawlty Towers may feel right at home. I would not call this a boutique hotel. It feels like a an old bed and breakfast that has been imaginatively renovated with a bar/ breakfast room in the basement but where the management then lost interest. The location directly across from the Millenium Centre is great.
