We downloaded a 3 courses for £15 set menu dinner voucher from one of Accor Group’s sites and decided to use it the day before our wedding anniversary as a sort of celebration meal. We were given a table right by the tinted windows looking out onto the main road and were bathed in the last rays of gorgeous evening sunshine before it disappeared behind the buildings opposite. The staff were really friendly and chatted to us throughout the time we were in the restaurant. It’s one of those restaurants where the kitchen is open plan and you can see everything that’s happening. There was only a small choice of about 4 starters, mains and desserts on the set menu but there were things on there for each course that we fancied so it wasn’t a problem. We guess it could be if you don’t fancy any of the dishes. The set menu also includes bottles of wine that are nowhere near as expensive as those on the main wine list. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our meal. On top of the 3 courses, we started off with some bread & dipping oils/balsamic that cost about £3 extra. As for the 3 courses, you could probably call it a sort of fine dining experience where the small looking portions are set out on their plates a bit like works of art. At the end of our meal we weren’t overly full but we weren’t still hungry either. During the meal our waiter, Vincente, had wheedled it out of us it we were having an anniversary meal. Then, out of the blue, just as we finished our main course we were given 2 glasses of fizz, compliments of the house. And when our sharing dessert was brought out it had “happy anniversary” written on the plate in caramel sauce. We had a super meal but the staff and the unexpected surprises really made our evening. If this is the normal standard at Hodges Restaurant then we think most customers will be very pleased. We’ll definitely try it again in a few months time.
