Based on Tripadvisor reviews and finding Canton a convenient area for then going into town for the match, we booked Almada. On arrival we were greeted warmly and our table ready. Slihtly disappointed by the decor etc, clean but scruffy and very unimpressed with the toilet facilities.
The normal 2 course lunch is £8.95 per head but we were shocked to see that this had been replaced by a "ruby special", assume they mean rugby, at an eye watering price of £22 for 2 and £26 for 3 courses with an additional compulsory 10% service charge. I really didn't expect the ordinary menu or price but did feel such a massive increase in charge was completely unjustified given the location and decor of the restaurant. We really did feel pretty ripped off.
The food was very good. Surprisingly the ruby special didn't include chicken piri piri, my husband's all time favourite Portuguese dish. Fair play to the staff, when this was requested they did accommodate us, and everyone who had it thoroughly enjoyed the dish. I had the seafood risotto (not really Portuguese!) and it was fantastic. The wine was great and fairly priced and the service was very good.
I would recommend this restaurant with the proviso that you don't go on a rugby day and pay city centre prices for an out of town venue. The food and service were very good, the decor overall is poor and really let's down the overall experience which is a shame
