“Beautiful Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Gorgeous modern hotel, close enough for walking distance to main shopping areas and Cardiff Castle. The staff and hotel made our one night stay in Cardiff an excellent memorable one I would definitely recommend this hotel. the room was huge and very clean. Staff immediately directed us to the areas we wanted to go without any trouble.

Stayed in an Executive room which was very spacious and the bathroom was well laid out. Loved the Nespresso machine - great touch! Bar area was relaxed to both work, socialise and have a quiet drink in. Breakfast was buffet style but fresh and enjoyable. Staff on reception was friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We were staying at Park Plaza when we were at Cardiff and we decided to extend our stay for one more night as we really were enjoying Wales.. Unfortunately, Park Plaza were full..so we inquired at Mercure hotel..again, they were full so they recommended their sister hotel, Novotel. I quickly checked some review about Novotel and most of them are positive so we might as well try..

We stayed here August 10.. When we checked in, we weren't greeted, no smile whatsoever by the person who was in the front desk..He just made me sign and gave me ONE key to our room..one key for a room with more than 2 people ? really now ? this is the ONLY 4star hotel that I know who gives you one key for a room with 2 or more adults.. It was the NIGHT AUDITOR named BRYAN EDWARDS..he didn't say anything to us, any information whatsoever after the check in..didn't bother asking if we want breakfast, or that their spa opens...he didn't even tell us what time would the check out be..he was so arrogant and acts as if we were bothering him..

Anyway, when we got to our room, we were so disappointed..the room was small..can't believe it was for 3-4 people.. My partner has to fix the sofa bed as two woods underneath were out of placed.. Checked the bathroom, was decent and clean..but there were only 2 towels, and both were stained..There were 2 extra pillows but was so dusty and has no pillowcases.. I can't believe that this is a 4 star hotel.. We slept ok though, working AC and the thickness of the duvet was enough.. Coffee and tea provided, so is shampoo, soap and conditioner.

Location wise, I think it's really good for families with young kids..it's not in the center of the city centre..I mean there were no bars or pubs near..very quiet area.. Although we didn't like the fact that there were no restaurants near..it was like in the middle of nowhere but it wasn't that bad..it was like 10-12mins walk to be in the city centre. There were also Xbox and wii on the ground floor for kids..

Next day, when we were on our way to our room, the same rude guy, Bryan Edwards stopped us, called us out..he asked if we were from room 109, and so we said Yes.. We didn't know what that was for though..and his voice was very loud even though we were just in front of him..and I mean loud like to the point that others turned around to see what was going on..as if we did something wrong..It was so uncomfortable for us..

We will never come back to this hotel..there are more hotels better than this one and we do regret staying here.. Wished I researched more before saying Yes to the mercure hotel staff.. We really can't believe that this hotel is a 4 star.. WORST 4 star hotel we stayed in !! Shame !

Room Tip: Definitely not room 109.. So small..I think most of the rooms on the first floor are small..

Stayed Friday and Saturday night (family room, double and sofa bed for littley). Clean, quiet, staff excellent, breakfast fresh and huge choice. Pool clean/warm (towels provided) and gym well kitted out (from what I saw…) Location is <10 mins walk to high street).Great base to explore from, as midway from Bay and city centre. Car park £9 a day (which is cheap). A gem of a hotel. One minor issue was the aircon was not working, but fans were provided and kept room cool.Stayed Friday and Saturday night (family room, double and sofabed). Clean, quiet

Room Tip: on level 4, end room furthest from stairs/ lift. So quiet we almost missed breakfast (which starts t...

The reviews really helped me pick to stay at this hotel, and they were 100% accurate. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and is very clean. The pool and spa facilities are amazing and weren't too busy; all other guests we spoke to were very friendly and so were all the staff.
The walk to the centre was 10 minutes and the walk to the bay was 15. Both routes were very simple and pleasant at night. (And being 18 without a car that is very important)
Even though we were a younger couple at the hotel we weren't treated any differently by the staff, who were all really professional and welcoming at all times.
Overall the hotel is lovely, room was clean and spacious and there was no noise in the early hours of the morning/late at night.

This was the fourth hotel we stayed at during our visit to Cardiff, It was easy to find, checkout was nice and simple and carried out by a very helpful lady.
Location wise it is just a short walk from the town centre.
The swimming pool was clean and the gym looked well stocked for its size.
We decided to dine at the hotel restaurant and what a lovely suprise to find hotel food that was so nice, the chilli con carne was gorgeous.
Check out in the morning was easy.
Whilst the hotel is set up more for international (business) visitors, (the staff had name badges with flags on them to denote what other language they spoke) it worked very well for us.
We would consider staying here again should we find ourselves in the area.
