£29 Bargain.
Pros-
Nice and quiet.
Clean, light and spacious room (for a Travelodge)
Harvester next door with good food and let me take my wine carafe back across to my room.
comfortable bed
Cons-
A bit faded - needs an update
Nowhere for breakfast - Harvester shut and no supermarket handy.
Reception smelt of cigarette smoke - staff seem to smoke at doorway and it blows in !
Summary;
Used it as a base to explore Cardiff with the family and it was perfectly acceptable. Wouldn't want to go there on business for more than 1 night as there is nothing else there!

I stayed in this Travelodge on a Friday night, and booked it because it was a couple of miles outside the city centre and had a carpark.

I met friends there and we shared a family room on the ground floor, which smelt a bit musty but apparently no other rooms were available. It was however clean and well looked after, and we could see our cars out of the window!

There is a Harvester pub right next to the hotel, which was great for simple meals (though sadly no breakfast) and a couple of drinks.

We took a taxi into the centre of Cardiff for a concert in the evening, which was £10 and far easier than driving in.

Despite the hotel being full, we were back there by 11.30 and were not disturbed by any comings and goings during the night.

For £29 ,this was a great value hotel and if you're not overly bothered about having breakfast before you set off in the morning - or if you're happy with the long life option offered by the Travelodge - then this is ideal.

Booked well in advance to secure £29 room night. Room allocated was very tired and desperately in need of refurbishment.Mattress was completely worn out - back aches by morning. Bathroom sorely in need of attention and dirty paintwork throughout. Whilst we only paid a budget price you would have expected a greater standard of cleanliness. Also the lightbulbs at the side of the bed and over the dressing table had been removed and we had to request replacements from reception. Dont waste your £4.50 on the pre-packed breakfast either.

Rooms adequate but very tired looking and bathroom badly in need of a good clean.
Hotel seems to attract stag and hen parties so steer clear of it on Friday and Saturday nights unless you've got ear plugs.

Upon our arrival in Cardiff we finally found the hotel after driving round in circles, due to the fact the hotel isn’t signposted.
We entered the lodge where we waited to check-in. The check-in procedure seemed to take forever, I was amazed by this as with my job I stay in many hotels and have never waited such a long time to get a key.
We finally received the key to room 17.
When we got in the room the first things I noticed were the dead/squatted flies on the ceiling, the dust under the bed and the dripping broken gutter outside (SEE PHOTOS).

Pictures show evidence of dead/squatted flies no the ceiling. I realise that flies are an issue in this climate for the time of year, but surely the fact that the dead insects remain on the ceiling is unacceptable and disgusting. I would expect this to be cleaned off prior to any new arrivals.

Other pictures show clear evidence of dust under the bed which clearly hasn’t seen a vacuum cleaner in a long time. This again proves how filthy these rooms are.

A broken gutter. This continued to drip with water for the duration of my stay. Due to this I found it difficult to sleep as the noise being made was exceptionally loud. I was annoyed at this as needed sleep as had a 4 hour journey home the next day.

I realise that the room booked was budget price, but regardless of the cost the rooms should still be to a high standard of cleanliness, which they clearly were not.

In the past I have never stayed in such a grotty hotel. I have stayed in Premier Travel Inn’s throughout the country and for a similar price to Travelodge the standard there is far higher than that of the Travelodge I stayed in at Cardiff Llanedeyrn. It makes me wonder what the standard is of the other Travelodge’s throughout the country.

Upon checking out of the hotel we required some travel direction information. The check-in desk was empty, we proceeded to press the call bell several times, no-one appeared to assist us. Finally a cleaner was walking past and gave us the information we required. My question is why was a reception desk unmanned at 12 midday when this is the check-out time for all visitors?

Overall my stay at this hotel was appalling, however seeing Madonna in concert was the only good thing to come out of my trip to Wales!!
