“As a 3 star, it has great standards”

Park Inn Cardiff North

Nov 16, 2007

We stayed at the hotel on 27 October had booked a double room. We arrived at 1.30 pm which was half an hr before the check in time. as the room was not ready we were asked to take seat in the lounge and were offered tea and coffee. when we checked in the room was nice and spacious though a bit run down, but was nice and clean-good job done by the housekeepers. Also the taxi service company associated with the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Morning breakfast was refreshing and just made our day. We thank all staff at the park inn and i would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Never attempt to stay there! I've never posted a review before, as I've never felt the need to. However, I feel I need to warn others about the way this particular hotel operates. It is extremely badly organised, certain reception staff unhelpful and deceitful. They took money on credit card without authority. We had booked four double rooms as we were attending a wedding nearby. On arriving at hotel, were told we had no rooms booked. I produced booking confirmation, when they agreed we had booked, but they didn't have any rooms available. Then they managed to find two rooms. After much insistence on our part, they finally agreed to book two rooms elsewhere. This happened to be 15 miles away! It was agreed they would arrange a taxi from Park Inn to alternative hotel. They also agreed that I would be able to discuss a reasonable discount for all the inconvenience. This took about two hours to sort out, and as a result we missed the evening wedding buffet. On returning to the hotel from evening reception we were told we would have to pay then (at 1.00am) or no rooms would be available to us - totally going back on our earlier agreement. After much argument, it was agreed this could be sorted the following morning. We eventually arrived at alternative hotel at around 2.30 am, and had to be up again at 8.00 am to get taxi to take us back to Park Inn for breakfast. Whilst at the alternative hotel, we were made aware of another 8 families in the same predicament, i.e. the Park Inn had double booked at least 10 rooms on that same day. There may well have been other people in other hotels which we were unaware of. We were also informed that it's standard practice for these types of establishments to double book two or three rooms in case some people don't turn up. The problem is, when people do then turn up there are no rooms available. It's my understanding that Park Inn take this standard practice to extremes, and double book a significant number of rooms on a regular basis, with the result that many people, having booked rooms, turn up to discover there are none available. On returning to Park Inn in the morning, we were again asked for credit card details to make payment. I stated that they already had our card details, but was told they could not take payment without a specific code number and my express authority. I said that I was not happy to pay without speaking with the manager first to formally complain. I was told the manager was unavailable, and to discuss with him on Monday. Imagine my surprise, when, without any notification to me, monies have been taken out of my account, before I had any chance to speak with the manager. Of the two rooms that were available at Park Inn, heating was broken in one of them. When we complained, we were told just to turn the thermostat. Explained that had already been done, but heating still not working. Further argument in attempt to get that fixed. Place was dingy and unkempt. We will never again have anything to do with this company, and would advise anyone to avoid the place, it's just not worth the stress and time to sort things out. In no way did we have the relaxing weekend we had intended, and to spend time together as a family. One member of the party suffered a migraine, another had a completely sleepless night, and we were all extremely stressed, angry frustrated and exhausted, by the inability of the staff to appreciate how distressing the whole experience was. Absolutely disgraceful place!

“Disappointing & Badly Organised”

Park Inn Cardiff North

Oct 29, 2007

We stayed at the Park Inn Cardiff North on 27 October. I booked this via the Superbreaks website and had requested an upper floor, non smoking, double room. On arrival we were given a ground floor, smoking, twin room. On going back to reception to ask for what we booked (as the room did smell of smoke and we're non smokers), we were told that they had no double rooms left and that it was the website that did not communicate our request to them. They did however, move us to an upper floor, non smoking twin room - as we entered we saw that the room was still dirty from the last guests. On complaining again, one of the receptionists went up to "clean" the room. He came back and told us the beds were not perfect but he had made them and cleaned the room - which sounded fine to us. We went up to our room to find that he left a sheet off one bed and on the other bed, the body length creases made it clear that it had been slept on the night before. We called him up again and I asked for clean sheets and told him I would make the beds myself, which seemed the easier option by this time. We then found a dirty football sock in between the 2 beds...

We didn't expect luxury but one thing I do expect when staying in hotels is a clean place to sleep and a clean bathroom.

On the upside, the breakfast buffet was good, and the shower was hot and powerful.

“Not so great”

We stayed in this hotel as aprt of a tour group. While the hotel itself wasn't that bad (it looked nice and was located close to the stadium), our window leaked and our room smelled like smoke. The waitstaff was not able to handle our large group, even though they knew we were coming. I wouldn't have been that disappointed if I travelled alone, but as part of a luxury tour, this was definietly not up to snuff.

“surprisingly good”

Park Inn Cardiff North

Stayed overnight following a company party. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, it was previously Jurys Inn and is now Park Inn.

Check-in was nice and easy, I was given a king room on the 2nd floor (overlooking the Cardiff International Arena). The room itself was extremely HOT. The windows unfortunately didn't open but thank goodness for the fan in the room, what is it about hotels in the UK they don't have Air Con.

The Room was well appointed with a Phillips flat screen TV, Phillips stereo system, in room Safe, Mini bar (although empty I was able to keep my water cool), Iron, Tea and Coffee making facilites. The bed was extremely comfortable with Duvet and loads of pillows, but the best and most suprising thing about the room was the shower, so powerful and hot. No complaints there.

Breakfast was very good, lots of choices, both hot and cold with friendly staff.

All in all a good stay, I would certainly consider staying again. It is also very central for the shops (2 min walk) and it appears that a new shopping mall is being built nearby so some rooms could be noisy.
