“chronicler of welsh art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

it has a large collection of welsh art + other art periods like impressionist...

i was impressed with the amount of welsh art which parallels european art....in addition, there were works by van gogh (although it is a damaged piece) and renoir...

there is an organ in one of the exhibit rooms and someone was playing it while i was there...

there was a contemporary art exhibit also, keeping welsh art modern...

“A grand museum & art gallery.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

The National Museum is a grand building, stuffed full of fascinating art, sculpture, natural-history and historical artefacts.
It's free entry too - which is great (although on rainy afternoons it can be a bit busy.)
There are large displays of the geological history of Wales - includng ossils and dinosaurs - very popular with families. And a large collection of fine-art, sculpture and ceramics - as well as visiting exhibitions from around the globe.
We live within walking distance, so we go regularly to see both the exhibitions or the long-term exhibits.

“Nice-and free!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Great location, easy to get to-and you can;t beat the price! I did try to go on a Monday--they are closed that day, but all the other days are available. Neat museum, good for kids, but we were pretty disappointed that the Archaeology wing was closed for like a year-just another reason to come back some day.

“Great selection of art and science”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Really nice way to spend and afternoon. We are not great art enthusiasts but there was such an assortment of paintings, sculptures, porcelain and science exhibits that anyone can find something of interest. We went back for a few hours a second day to see a few exhibits in more detail. And it is free! Check out the Swansea porcelain - makes you wish you could get invited to the manor house for dinner.
