“Great alternative to a hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

I stayed at century wharf for the second time last weekend and found it to be a brilliant (and surprisingly cheaper) alternative to hotel accommodation.

My partner and his colleagues were working in Cardiff over the weekend so I tagged along and made use of the apartment whilst they worked. We booked a studio apartment which was spacious and well equipped. The last time we were there we received a free upgrade to a one bedroom apartment however there were none available this time but we found the studio did exactly what we needed it to and I probably wouldn't pay for the 1 bed when the studio was so good. The apartment we were in could benefit from some decorating however it was clean, the paintwork and carpets just really needed a bit of a freshen up. The aircon was also incredibly difficult to work out, we got there eventually though! :)

The apartments are a nice short walk to Mermaid Quay in Cardiff bay and so were in good staggering distance on Friday night after a few drinks.

People have mentioned on here that check in is a bit of a pain and I would agree with this but I think you have to understand that these are serviced apartments and not a hotel so there is no front desk as you would find in a hotel. The guy who checked us in was lovely and made sure we had all his details in case we needed him during our stay.

All in all I enjoyed our stay and would use acityabode again, especially when travelling for prolonged periods on business!

I stayed at this place for about a month. Nice place , good location and very friendly staff. Overall I don't mind staying here again but just one thing that made me feel a little negative. The weekly cleaning was a part of the deal offered but this service was very poor. Most of the times they didn't clean garbage, vacuuming was not proper and the tables were not even touched for cleaning. Would request the staff to work on this. Otherwise a great stay.

Absolutely love this place. I felt as if I just changed residence. The staff were very prompt prior to arrival and took care of any questions, concerns, and had good advice for venues. They also provided 25% off at 5 restaurants and pubs down by the wharf. The wharf was about 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The city center was about 10 minutes walk in the opposite direction. It was very comfortable stay. Lenin was provided for the sofa-bed and internet was provided apon request. Looking forward to returning here.

We had to wait 35 minutes for the man to arive at the gates. Then another 10 minutes whilst he dealt with someone else. It was over an hour and 15 minutes before we found a parking space and was in the room. They claim to have 40 properties in this compound yet can't afford an office on site.

Well annoyed as we ended up being late for the concert after all the faffing around. We paid £195 in cash for the room as they claimed card was no good.

"oh the view is amazing" he said. "yes it may be but now I have no time to look at it"

The apartment is very clean and tidy. All mod cons and a good place to stay if there was a check in desk. We were told to leave the key in the letter box which is not at all safe.

Location is fine for central Cardiff.

ACITY A, Manager at acityabode Century Wharf, responded to this review, July 26, 2013
We appreciate you taking the time to review our property.

There are a number of things I would like to point out in response.

Your booking date was the 23rd July the date of the Bruce Springsteen concert at the Millennium Stadium.

Your booking was made roughly 15 minutes before you arrived at Century Wharf.
It takes an hour to get an apartment ready for a guest to check in. We would not allow a guest to check in to a dirty apartment.

We advise guests to pre book parking at time of booking as spaces are limited this is clearly stated on Booking.com. As your booking was such short notice, and on an extremely busy day we did not have any spaces left to reserve.

We do not "claim" to have 40 apartments. We actually do have 40 apartments. It is against the regulations of the property management company that run Century Wharf to operate an office from within the Development.

As you have mentioned, cash was paid for the room which is against our Policy. We were unable to obtain a payment from the details you had provided, had we actually been provided in advance with your mobile number, rather than your home number, then of course we could have arranged this again over the phone. We had no alternative to arrange with you when you arrived at the gate. We chose to accept cash on this occasion as we knew you would struggle greatly in finding alternative accommodation in Cardiff at such short notice and we wanted to assist you on such an important event and since you had previously been let down by alternative accommodation in the City, nothing to do with Acityabode, however we wanted and ensured to look after you both as our Guests at such extremely short notice.

The views from our apartments are lovely, thank you for that comment. It is a great shame that you didn't have time to enjoy them fully.

Guests are asked to leave their keys in the letter box on departure. These letter boxes are in a gated fob entry development, in a fob entry building and have lock on the actual letter boxes.

We hope to see you again in the future and thank you for your custom.

I have been using the same hotel in Cardiff for some years. I decided recently to try a new style of accommodation. I have to say I will not look back. The check in process was simple and comprehensive. I checked into on of the Studio rooms in Nice House and was very pleasantly surprised. It was a great size, bright and clean, well equipped and comfortable. I loved the fact that there was access to a great gym and pool which I used every day and was never to busy. I plan to check in for a week in August and am really looking forward to it. I might be working away from home but that doesn't mean I have to eat bad hotel food! Hurray!

Stayed here with my partner for 2 nights whilst graduating in Cardiff. Stunning views are available from the right apartments. Met on arrival by an extremely polite and courteous member of staff, who couldn't do enough for us. Apartment was advertised as coming complete with a "fully fitted kitchen", however did not have any frying pans or a tin opener which I found strange. Furthermore, the kitchen utensils that were there were very dirty, and the grill had not been cleaned from the last occupant! The flat screen TV and heated towel rails are lovely additions however, together with the complimentary tea and coffee (although you have to go looking for it!) Guests are also permitted to use the onsite leisure facilities free of charge, including a gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Each of these were amazing and used frequently throughout the stay.

Overall a pleasant experience, however the apartments do need to be cleaned between visits!

Room Tip: Make sure you request an apartment with a river view - absolutely stunning

This place is ok if you have low expectations

Small apartment (234 Zurich House).

Generally unclean: windows, bathroom cabinet, fridge, utility. Stained walls & carpets. Broken bulbs. Broken drawers.

Bed collapsed (several slats missing) and was not repaired until next day, and only after we called several times and sent text message; two men came to repair, very polite and efficient.

Staff entered apartment twice in our absence without prior arrangement.

Excellent pool/sauna facilities, however based in another block, and serving hundreds of apartments..
