“Terrible service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

We went to the new garden last night for Chinese New Year. We were a table of 8. There was a set menu at £32 per head the food was very good and there was plenty for everyone. Entertainment was also included which we did not see any of it as we were pushed into a corner and could only see a wall. The service was shocking we asked a waiter several times for drinks and when he could eventually be bothered to serve us he was stinking of cigarettes. On departure the money was taken very quickly from us I wished that the service had been as quick.

“Easily best chinese food ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Been many times and is always 10/10. The staff couldn't do anymore to make your dinning experience any better. A real oriental feel to the restaurant and I haven't even mentioned the best part- the food. Truely no better place for chinese food that i have been to or had a take away from. Can not fault the New Garden in any way.

“Fantastic as always! The best Chinese around!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

Have been here numerous times before & it never disappoints! We live just over 20 miles away & it is well worth the journey. We booked late Saturday afternoon for that evening at 8pm and it was a good thing we'd booked as i have never seen it so busy. Regardless Of this we didnt have to wait long to be shown to our table and as always the service was excellent all evening. It's a huge place although it looks tiny from the outside & it was packed. It's lovely inside, with a pianist playing throughout the evening. It has a lovely atmosphere & is a great place for a catch up with friends or family, and caters easily for large groups. It's nice yet relaxed-you can dress up or just smart casual. As usual the food was gorgeous! We ordered a set meal and as always there was plenty! The food is so good, it just tastes so much better than from any other chinese ive had. The honey roast spare ribs are to die for! This place is fantastic! Reasonably priced, excellent food & great, friendly service-what more could you want!!

“A definite hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

Just back at my hotel after a really lovely meal at the New Garden. Initial impression was not great. Having booked a table I was not happy when four other groups arrived without reservations but were given tables ahead of us. The standard of service after getting to our table sadly did not improve. We had to stop a passing waiter to take our order after waiting far too long for service. The same problem occurred with respect to the amount of time it took to bring out our main courses after we had finished our starters. Thankfully when it did arrive the food was excellent and couldn't be faulted. Such was the quality it more than compensated for the time it took to arrive. Overall a lovely evening, just think twice about visiting if you are in a bit of a hurry and have less than a couple of hours to dine.

“Delicious Chinese Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Love this place, it looks tiny and unimpressive from the outside but is huge inside. My boyfriend, who is from Cardiff and doesn't know Bridgend, thought it was in a very random place, however I assured him it would be good!

Decor is dated as others have mentioned, but I personally like it. I went here for a few birthday meals when I was younger and loved the river running through it. I visited in December after not having been for a few years. We were not disappointed! Food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. We had the set menu for 2 people which was way too much food, however we took some home. We had lettuce rolls and then spare ribs to start, which were probably the best spare ribs i've ever had. Then we had four main dishes which included cantonese steak and lemon chicken, which we swapped to from garlic chicken, with no problem from staff. Although Westernised, this was probably some of the best Chinese food I've eaten in a restaurant.

Only thing that could have spoilt it was four teenagers came in right towards the end and ate on the table next to us, they were very noisy and vulgar however this is no fault of the restaurant. Will be returning!
