Not much to say about it really it is sand and more sand and if you are unlucky you will have to pay for the privilege of parking your car to see some sand

“A great place to Run”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

The sand dunes at Merthyr Mawr are an excellent place to run for the more experienced runner and offers some challenging courses. I have been using them for many years and don't think I have run the same course twice. You can use the hills or make your way across the dunes near the sea for a less challenging course and there,s always the 'Big Dipper' for the more adventurous.

beautiful, great to cycle down there, wonderful. should spend a whole day and be prepared to walk in the sand. watch out for ants when you picknick or sit and bring a blanket and water.

“Nature's best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Merthyr Mawr village contains several cottages and a parish church, the cottages retaining an authentic, traditional feel with thatched roofs and well maintained gardens. Nearby are the Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes, where scenes from Lawrence of Arabia may or may not have been filmed (highly likely when you see the vastness of the dune system) but which are certainly used as a training ground for the likes of the Welsh Rugby team.
Just you try running all the way up the "big dipper"! It's the largest single sand dune in Europe.

“Lovely walk, although not an easy stroll!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

Love this place & so do the dogs. Can walk for miles if you want to, eventually reaching the beach. Quite hard going if you go across the sand dunes, very steep in places
