“Need to decide what their core function is. Unwelcoming.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Visited and as a notice on the wall said" take your coffee upstairs and browse our used book selection",we duly did so, sitting on a pleasant sofa. Only to be chided by owner telling us, ( we are mid fifties and sedate professionals, not a group of teenagers ) to be careful as a new exhibition just laid out.
Not appropriate if you don't want people to take coffee upstairs then take down sign suggesting it. Coffee OK but pleasanter experience in Ardent gallery (where they are entirely happy for you to sit upstairs and look at their exhibitions with a coffee) and other cafes. Won't return.
I should say in fairness a good and interesting selection of local books.

“Wonderful lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

What a lovely place in Brecon, we enjoyed platters of olives, cheese, roasted veg, and halloumi salad in this lovely bookshop and cafe. We ate upstairs like our own private dining room! Service was great, helpful and prompt. Definately a good find!

“A real find - after breakfast, returned same day for cake and tea!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

My friend and I stumbled upon this smashing little place in Brecon when heading from the car park into town in search of a late breakfast. We arrived after the cut off time for breakfast, but as they weren't too busy they were happy for us to order from the breakfast menu. We both ordered coffee and the breakfast stack. The coffee was fantastic and I am a coffee snob! My friend is a barista and also thought it was delicious. The breakfast was excellent, all locally sourced ingredients including meat from the local farmer.

The cafe is situated in the back of the book shop in a light area. It's small but very friendly and cosy creating a perfect environment for a place like this. We were so impressed that we had to return a couple of hours later on our way back to the car to sample their homemade cakes and a pot of tea!

Will definitely return when in Brecon and strongly recommend this to anyone with good taste!!

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Great selection of books and service to get others you require. no rubbish books. Coffee and lunch is always tasty and delicious cakes. great service - friendly - always a smile from staff and owners. papers to read, childrens play table - great background music from jazz to 1940s classics. love it but I dont want EVERYONE to go there as its small and I always want a seat......

“Lovely atmosphere, excellent lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Popped in to The Hours yesterday, needing a 'rest break' & a QUICK lunch between appointments on a jam-packed day.

This bookshop/cafe is beautiful inside, the team was welcoming, & when Chef heard I was in a hurry, she rushed my order - a very welcome & delicious halloumi & roasted veg sandwich.

The only regret is I couldn't stay longer. People around me were enjoying more leisurely meals & there were even some special offers on like a home-made soup & sandwich deal.
