Something very odd about this place, but credit where credit is due. This is a straightforward B&B giving just what you expect for the price. It is clean and stuff works. OK, so the packed lunches are a bit cheap and mingey, but what would one expect for £3.95 (in fact, all the breakfast food is cheap, cash & carry fare). Basically everything is average as expected. Pity then that the owners have a nasty, lazy, chippy, unhelpful, mickey-taking attitude. Right from our tired 5-hour drive from work in London at almost 8pm on a Friday evening, through a mickey-taking waiter at breakfast, to a couldn't-care-less response to asking for drink at their bar, one felt that these are people who are taking the mickey unrelentlessly out of their paying guests (or us anyway). OK, so she is more horrible than him, but they both need to have a good look in the mirror. Maybe foreign tourists can laugh this off as being quaint or quirky, but we are British so we know what's going down here. We know it is downright rudeness. They know holidaymakers don't want a confrontation so they get away with it. If anyone wants details of our experience, please ask. Otherwise, be warned.
- Also Known As:
- The Beacons Brecon, Wales
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Beacons was once a riverside farm and the 17th Century barns and cottages still remain. The front part of the building was added in the early 1700's and the house has changed little - apart from modern comforts and decor. The original spiral staircase, moulded ceilings and even the meat cellar (now a cosy bar) all add to the character and atmosphere of this lovely home. ... more less
