The hotel is looking rather tired. Needs a makeover. Wallpaper needs stripping which shouldn't take too long as it's already peeling off. Paintings need replacing. Furniture needs replacing bathroom grouting needs replacing. For this reason we didn't eat at the hotel. However I did have a good night's sleep and the staff are helpful

Went for a bar meal here last Saturday, ordered off the special board and both our meals were delicious( we shared a starter and dessert) Staff were really helpful and friendly,my friend had the salmon and waitress came and asked for feedback as first time to try that particular dish. Atmosphere was really good and all age groups there. definately worth a visit and will go back.

We stayed for two nights at The George Hotel in August of 2013. It is a charming old hotel in the center of Brecon. Our room was large and spacious, very clean with a beautiful decor. The staff was helpful, friendly, and courteous. We enjoyed the restaurant very much along with the bar featuring the ales of the Evan-Evans Brewery. You step back in history when you walk through Brecon and staying at The George had the perfect accommodations.

Booked in not expecting much as we were only staying one night but the room was fabulous and breakfast lovely , staff were friendly & helpful.Wished I could have stayed longer. The annex is a wonderfully quirky bulding and across a lovely courtyard from the hotel.

Room Tip: ground floor of annex

Maybe it's was because the booking was for 9 blokes on a walking weekend we ended up in the Annex. Rooms were tired and not as pretty as you see here. Didn't bother us lot. Rooms were clean, warm, with hot bath and shower great. Enough said.
The George is a nice traditional townhouse hotel with a great bar, good beer (Evan Evans) and good wine (we got through 7 bottles Malbac at dinner. A decent restaurant with good food. Very friendly and helpful staff. All round a great base for the area.

But again avoid the annex rooms. They window onto Main Street and it will be a lot of noise when the local Lounge Cafe spills at 3am. Then again if you can't beat them gone them.

allthough staff tried hard the overall standard was poor, seemed a lack of management, if there were any, or desire to put things right as no improvement over last visit...business trip so hotel was booked for me but certainly wouldnt choose it myself..rooms tired , food overpriced for the quality , generally feels like no one is bothered for which the owners must take some of the blame . sugest a good clean down

Room Tip: try another hotel

very dirty tired rooms. disgusting mildew around bath, you would not want a bath, tolerated a shower in it though. wallpaper hanging off walls. cups and spoons in room were dirty. hygiene standards are revoltingly low. restaurant is very very pricey and food is okay, i guess it depends on what you have. i will not go back here again. very low grade. :-(
room 10.

Room Tip: windows are the old sash ones and single glazed, so bare in mind you're going to hear everything...
