Having cycled for most of the day form Abbergavenny via Hay-on-Wye we were very happy to roll into the Brecon YHA. The dark 19th century building is a couple of miles outside of Brecon which was good for us as it sits on bike route 8. It is After meeting the very friendly staff who gave us to verbal tour we put our bikes in the locked shed provided for the purpose. As is the case with all YHA's I have stayed it is very relaxed and we could roam at will to around the warren of a building to find the facilities. The self catering kitchen was very big and had everything you could want. There was a TV room and I believe wifi was available. In addition food is prepared on site if you do not want to cook for yourself. We found our way to our room and as it said on the tin - room with bunks no frills. The shared facilities were very functional possibly limited on number when all the rooms are full. We could wash and dry our cycling kit. We ate in the restaurant and the food was good. We had a good quite and dark night sleep. In the morning we could fix our own breakfast and depart on our bikes refreshed. What more could we ask for £17 per head.
The building makes this more of a traditional YHA experience than some and it is not luxury - but you get what you pay for plus meeting some friendly people.
