“Value for Money family run B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012 via mobile

We hadn't booked anywhere and saw their vacancy sign - offered to show me the room before we took it - it was gone 6pm on a Saturday night - had had a long day would have slept anywhere - so just said we'll take it - We were really happy with our room, No. 12 in the roof - think swiss ski lodge, but it was just ideal, very good value for money and they had a car park at the back - friendly welcome, warm, clean room, good shower and good breakfast - walked 10 mins in Brecon all sorts of places to eat and drink to choose from to suit all - recommend The Old Castle Farm B & B down to earth hard working family run establishment Many Thanks David and Mandy

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

We stayed here for one night on a cycling trip across Wales.

The owners are very pleasant, we arrived ahad of time, and we got to use the shed to lock up our bikes, as well as the back yard later in the evening for bike repairs.

Our room was very special, it was long and slim, with a bathroom with a window that went right into a brick wall. There was also a "room window", however this solution made it quite claustrophobic and stuffy. Generally a bit of a let down.

The breakfast the next morning was good.

I think there might be nicer rooms in the establishment.

The bedrooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast is really good and it's hard to find a cheaper place in Brecon. They also have parking right behind the B&B. I didn't like all the private things and family pictures around the living room and the dining room. I felt like I was invading their privacy all the time.

Clean, comfortable and good value. My twin room with a single bed and double bed was large and had two easy chairs.
The breakfasts were high quality and large.
There is a spacious car park at the back of the house.

On our way to do a crossing of the Brecon Beacons and then walk in the Black Mountains we did spot Old Castle Farm Guest House, which is a 4* B&B and the 10 rooms are reasonably priced, the rooms are comfortable and an excellent breakfast is served very quickly. The owners David and Mandy Williams are very inviting and there is a relaxed ambiance in this old building dating back to the 1850s. It was a working farm up until the 1960s.

Other reasons why we chose this B&B:
• Easy access to the A40 but no noise from the dual carriageway
• Total Petrol Station 200yds down the road with a MACE shop
• Drover’s Arms Public House 50yds up the street where we found the beer, wine, food and service good.

This was an excellent base for our three days of walking in this lovely area.
