“fantastic!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

the welsh slate museum is by no means a dull and boring museum.

You enter and go at your own pace following a map given on arrival, with various films, exhibitions and demonstrations along the way at certain times.

The demonstration of slate splitting is a must-see and the guy doing it, is a real crowd pleaser, with a great sense of humour and is very happy to answer any questions before, during or after the demonstration.

The museum is large enough without being overwhelming, some is outside so may not suit you on a really wet day, though we did go in the rain and it didn't dampen spirits.

It is a truly excellent insight into such an important part of welsh history and it's FREE! what more can you want.

“An Interesting 3 Hours, Well Worth a Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

This was originally the workshops and maintenance yard for the adjacent slate quarry which has been left largely as it was when the quarry closed. You can wander round the various workshops and ooffices and there are also some authentic miners cottages set in differnt time periods. The intrductory film was particularly good and was followed by a slate splitting demonstration by an entertaining ex quarryman. The biggest waterwheel in the UK is here (or was it the world, I forget) There is a cafe on site and the most amazing thing is that the whole site is free admission. We spent an intersting and pleasant 3 hours here.

“Great industrial museum.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Called here whilst having a trip on the Llanberis Lake Railway which was also really good.
Fascinating insight into the lives, labours and achievements of slate miners. Interesting exhibits and information. Make sure you see the slate splitting demonstration which is both skillful and entertaining.
Couldn't believe it was free. Highly recommended.

“Best half day for free i have ever had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

While in Llanberis i visited the slate museum and what a pleasant surprise. So much to see that i spent 4 hours walking through the various buidings and houses all of which contained original machinery and information including films and displays. There is also very nice cafe and you will need a sit down.So worth a visit and all free dont miss it

“Great free museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Great place for families to visit. Huge displays with great detail. And all for free. The only catch is the £4 all day parking - not bad for a family day put though.
