“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in January to spend some time walking and seeing North Wales and Snowden as the location of the hotel is excellent.
We stayed on the "Wine & Dine" offer and thought that it was good value for money. It even included a bottle of house wine on the first evening! We dined each evening in the hotel and have to admit that the food was excellent. There is a "set" menu within this package deal but with an excellent choice of at least four options in each starter, main and desert. You can pay extra for "a la carte" although we didn't feel that this upgrade was necessary. We had the continental breakfast but you could pay a little bit extra for "full" breakfast.
You can buy "bar meals" in the two main bars at lunchtime and evening if you wish. We didn't try this so cannot comment on the quality. However, we did have a couple of drinks in the bar and may well have stayed longer had they been more welcoming and warmer. We found a couple of good bars and restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance in Llanberis.
The hotel itself is perhaps a little dated but it is certainly clean and we had no complaints at all. The carpets are a little threadbare and the decor could do with modernising, but we didn't spend too much time in the hotel as we had gone to see the spectacular scenery outside on the door step!!!
The room itself was a decent size and had the usual facilities of hair drier, tea/coffee making facilities and a decent tv.
The bathroom was a little on the small side but was adequate and had all you needed including complimentary packet soap and shampoo.
We found the staff to be polite and helpful.
The hotel also has a "drying room" to enable you to leave your wet clothes and boots and so as to not clutter your room.
I would certainly use the hotel again if I was going back to the area providing I could get the same deal. Overall good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel face the mountains and have a great view.

Attentive staff, beautiful location, reasonable price, all in all, very nice indeed!
Perfect location if you enjoy walking

A little crowded at breakfast time, we had to wait in a queue and having to pay if you wanted a full breakfast rather than a continrntal was a bit stingy.

Stayed here prior to going on a climbing course - room was not far off a room in "Rising Damp" for those old enough to recall that.
Really wanted somewhere decent before staying out and did not fancy the bunk house option so really spent a little to experience something better.

Staff on the night were very helpful but sadly could not detract from the room - not sure if this was a one off room but will not stay here again

This hotel is a great base for a walking or climbing holiday.
Warm and cosy bedroom. Spacious with good facilities. We had both a bath and shower.
The restaurant food was very good with generous portions. The Winter Break deal was excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Room 205 was bright light and sunny, with lovely views

It has a great location from travel , not only for Snowdonia, but also for the other part of North Wales. Reception are very friendly and very helpful. Its price is so cheap and value for money. Don't forget to take a picture of the beautiful view in dining room.

Grand old house showing a few signs of age. Paid £31 for a massive, well decorated room with reasonable en suite facilities. Friendly check in, mountain weather forecast available in reception. Used the bar in the evening. Sky tv (enabling us to watch Norwich beat Man U!), reasonable priced beer and good hearty food. Only one slight let down on the food but overall fantastic. Two courses and three rounds of San Miguel cost us £60 so good value for money. Customer service was fantastic, haven't stayed in a friendlier hotel in a long time! Continental breakfast included in the price of room. Fantastic selection, tomato bread rolls to die for and all fresh and of a high standard. Upgrade to cooked breakfast for £2.50, didn't have it ourselves but looked great for the price! Restaurant overlooked Llanberis and the start of Snowdon which was beautiful. Convenient location for our weekend of walking. Overall, this hotel represents the best value for money we have ever encountered, bearing in mind we regularly use hotels and the customer service that accompanies both the value and location tops it off to be a fantastic hotel. Would happily come and pay £50 and still be happy with the price. Recommend to all, especially walkers and hope to visit again soon.
