“Character and fine food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

The food never disappoints here. Recently we had a superb shepherds pie filled with tender pork belly, whitebait, which is not so common nowadays, and a "homemade burger", a tower of a thing that was elegantly presented and tasted wonderful.
Service is always good considering the food is freshly cooked. The atmosphere in the main bar area is characterful with the antique tables and seats/armchairs but could have done with the log fire being lit, it was lunch time so maybe it is only lit in the evening.
Price wise it is not a cheap pub grub, but good value considering the quality. It is popular though, so booking ahead is probably wise.
Parking is either outside on the busy A5 or in the pub's adjacent small car park. There is additional parking a short way down the road opposite, the A470 Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Undoubtedly one of the best dining pubs in the area.

“Great food in a cosy setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

We were very happy with the value for money and the delicious meals. I had lamb wellington (with mint mash and various garnishes/extras) and my husband had a "posh-looking" beef burger. The burger was above average and presented/tasted more like a real meal than it sounded. We had side-orders, which were fine, but if you didn't have a huge appetite these would probably be unnecessary with our dishes (or you could manage with 1 between two).

It was very tasty, and definitely our best meal in 5 days in Wales.

Our only complaint is that the seating was a bit random and odd (we were in the area that's more like a pub, with low tables and seats that aren't necessarily the best suited for dining.) I think there's another area, so if you booked ahead you could probably sit there. We didn't expect it to be busy, so we didn't reserve a table (the place we'd eaten at the night before was empty) but we probably should have. I assume this is because of its good reputation locally.

It was worth sitting like this for the good value, quality food. Even though it was a little cramped/awkward, the atmosphere was good in the room. Candle-lit, cosy and interesting decorated.

Service was quite slow, but again, that's because it was so busy, and we felt it was worth the wait once we started eating.

“What a fantastic restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

I am always wary of any restaurant with a big menu but this place absolutely delivered.
Four of us were staying locally and were recommended this place. We went on a Saturday night went there in the morning to book. They were full! Luckily they squeezed us in with an early sitting and i'm glad they did. You can see why it was full.
The food was delicious. The downside - too much choice!! The portion sizes are very good so we didn't go for a dessert. We had a range of food and were all very happy.
The staff were really friendly and knowledgable about the menu.
I have to add that the chips were quite possibly some of the best I have ever eaten.
Would definitely recommend and will certainly be looking to return in the future.

“Brilliant warm, cosy, inn, wonderful food & friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

We've eaten at the restaurant on a number of visits, both lunch times and evenings, most recently in October and have always enjoyed simply wonderful food from the varied and extensive menu. We don't eat meat but can say that the locally sourced fresh fish and plumpest, juiciest mussels are scrumptious! The inn is charming; full of character, warm and inviting. Ty Gwyn has a brilliant chef and friendly and helpful staff. We can't wait to go back in December! Make sure you book in advance.
