“Wildlife Experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

The RSPB visitor centre has ample parking, gift shop and a restaurant for light refreshments. A view point is located in stunning cliff top scenery providing views of the vast numbers of sea birds on the adjacent cliffs. Good views of puffins at their nesting burrows, cough and a peregrine eyrie with parent and chick were particular highlights. A visit in May-June is needed to see this wildlife spectacle.

“Informative, great food and views to die for......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

My partner and I visited on a very warm sunny Saturday in May. Being a normal holiday changeover day, fortunately there were not too many people which made a lot of difference to the stunning photos we were able to take. The staff at the Tower were very helpful, with binoculars and telescopes on hand to point out the sightings of the day (sadly, no puffins, but we did see a Peregrine and Guillemots). We then walked along the cliff, taking in spectacular view of the lighthouse, and then branched off and wandered over Holyhead Mountain which was almost deserted. Back then, to the lovely little cafe, where the staff are very friendly and supply wonderful cake! A great day out, especially for bird-lovers, but even if birds aren't your thing, go anyway for the scenery. One thing to note... signposting from Holyhead is VERY poor!
Oh, and to crown the visit, after the walk and cake I DID finally see a Puffin after all! (see photo!)

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

Visited South Stack RSPB Reserve over the spring Bank Holiday and it was very popular and busy so the car parks were rather full. Although the weather was not spectacular but the views and birds made up for that. This is one of our favourite places to visit and we were treated to a very special sighting of a Peregrine Falcon Pair on their nest feeding one chick got great views and photographs, we also saw Choughs, Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills as well as loads of butterflies and lots of smaller birds. The staff at the Reserve were very helpful answering questions and passing on their knowledge of the birds that visit the cliffs. We were also treated to a close up view of an RAF Air Sea Rescue Sea King Helicopter Practicing on Holyhead Mountain.
We will revisit again during the year but will try to pick a day that is less busy.
Here is a tip if possible try to visit on a weekday not in school holidays as its less busy and if you visit in the evening you will be treated to spectacular sunset views over the lighthouse.

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Well worth a visit if you enjoy stunning scenery - as I have mobility problems, the pathway down to the lighthouse was very difficult for me, but worth the effort if you are up to it.
