“What a difference a year makes :o)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

We returned this year to attend a track day at Anglesey track. The organisers of the event has been in regular contact with the hotel owners to try and prevent the farce that was the dining experiences of the past 2 years...

If I didn't know differently I would have said that this hotel was under new ownership, the management were cheerful, helpful and welcoming. There is obviously a new restaurant manageress/head waitress and she is polite but firm, and in complete control of everything - nothing too much trouble. The menu had been reduced (though a bit disappointed by the second night's menu contents) which meant the food was served quickly and nothing ran out as far as I am aware.

Breakfast was such a different experience on both days, enough of everything, and regularly checked and topped up so fresh food. Eggs requested the second day and that was so efficient.

Words I never thought I would use in reviewing this hotel - efficient food service!

The rooms are still lovely and the changes made meant for a much more relaxing and enjoyable stay for everyone (including I hope the people working in the hotel)

Keep it up and hope that if we visit again with the group it will be like the this year and not previous years

Stayed here after getting off the midnight crossing from Dublin.

Night staff were welcoming and no problems that we turned up at 1am.

Hotel is spacious, friendly and the room was really great.

Will definately stay here again !

Let's be honest, you only stay in Holyhead if you're going onto the ferry, right? If you stay for any other reason, bad luck, but for ferry trippers this is the best hotel to stay at. Why? Because it is in a very quiet location and you're guaranteed a good night's sleep. So if you've come off the ferry late it's a great bolt hole, ditto if you're on the early ferry. Beware however, the hotel is 6 miles out of town (hence the quiet location) down a country lane so if you're driving a bus it's a bit tricky. Cars, motorhomes, caravans etc are absolutely fine.
Looking at previous reviews the food has been questioned - I didn't try any (arrived late, left early) so cannot comment.

Did not stay in hotel however I met a group of 7 colleagues there for a business lunch. It took just over an hour from ordering the food to its arrival. I ordered a chilli burger and chips, expecting the wait to be worthwhile, I was greatly disappointed. The burger resembled a plastic packed cook in 2 mins service station variety and tasted much worse. The chips were also over cooked. Casting my eye around I noticed that others were also unhappy, especially the couple opposite, by the time the chap had been given his main meal his partner had eaten hers!! Shocking for such a nice hotel!

We stayed for one night before taking the ferry over to Ireland. I guess for one night it was okay. The room itself was quite comfortable but very hot and so was the corridor. The tv didn't work and having a young man (I mean young) come up to have a look at it, managed to get it going but with no HD channels. The dinner was alright but nothing to rave about and a little expensive for what you got. Breakfast was the same....have a better breakfasts in a small b & b. As it's close to Holyhead for the ferry its a good place to stay but as I said 1 night is probably enough.

We stayed at the hotel for one night, whilst visiting relations. Reception and bar staff very friendly and helpful. The owner Duncan made us feel very welcome and went out of his way to make sure our stay was perfect..Our room was spotless and had wonderful views of Snowdon Mountain. Scenery around the hotel is gorgeous, and the conservatory has lovely views of Holyhead Mountain perfect to watch the sunset. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Fantastic break really had a great time.Would highly recommend.

Ate at the restaurant - having read the reviews were looking forward to a memorable experience given that it was our wedding anniversary. From start to finish, the service was bad - we were due to eat at 7.30pm, actually shown to our table at 8.00pm - having sat in the bar area (which doubles as a foyer) - it had no ambience whatsover with the tv blasting out and children running about- there's no soft lights and gentle music here! For some inexplicable reason, even though the restaurant was half full, all the diners were bunched together in one area, somewhat cheek by jowl. The food itself wasn't too bad but did not warrant the price on the menu. The gap between courses was embarassinly long and the waitresses seemed extremely stressed and forgot requests (some basic training wouldn't go amiss). The little touches were lacking, such as iced water on the table and a bread basket (which would have been a boon given the length of time between courses - I could have eaten the napkin!). Perhaps we caught them on a bad night - we got the distinct impression that they were very short of staff. Might go back in the summer ....................
