“A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We stayed in The Old Stables cottage at the beginning of September and were not disappointed by the facilities and location. Anglesey has some fantastic walks and views all not far from the cottage. Church Bay is a 5 minute drive away (a good 30 minute walk down a quiet country road) and well worth a visit as are many of the bays and coves on the coastal walk. The cottage has all the amenities you need and Andy is always on hand if you need any help. Whilst we were there we had a power cut, due to a pole being knocked down nearby. Andy arrived with candles and offered his help should we have needed it. During our stay we visited The Black Lion pub (nice food albeit a little expensive), The Bull Bay Inn, nice food for lunch and of course the famous White Eagle (make sure you book!). We also ate at Sandys Bistro and Sullivans, both small and friendly places in a quiet lazy village. The property is currently up for sale so not sure what the future is for the cottages but if they remain for rent and you are looking for a quiet friendly holiday with amazing scenery and views the this is the place to go! PS - The double bed needs a bit of WD40

My Partner and I are getting married next week and so fancied a relaxing stay before the big day.
We arrived in Anglesey at the Hayloft to beautiful sunshine on Thursday. It is hidden away so just ensure your satnav is working. We had no problems locating it. We were greeted by the owner who gave us some top places to ride our bikes and informed us of the local watering holes should we need a rest. Although he lived next door and would often stop for a quick chat or give us some tips, it was never intrusive and we were left to our own devices. Inside is a quaint little sitting area and kitchen with lovely views over the rolling hills. The owners also left us a little hamper with jams, butters, bread, eggs and milk which was a lovely touch. Up a winding staircase is a small but comfortable bedroom connected to the most beautiful bathroom ever. I have bathroom envy. There is a huge shower, his and hers sinks but best of all a huge free standing roll top bath. I almost wanted to stay inside so I could relax in it more often. However, we did leave and that night visited the black lion pub which is about 5 minutes down the road. The food was delicious and not too over priced.
The next morning we were lucky enough to wake to glorious sunshine and the most amazing views from the bathroom window of Church bay and Holyhead. We took our bikes and cycled to Church bay and spent some time on the beach. It was beautiful and very relaxing. There is also a small café / shop that sells amazing scones, which are highly recommended. There is also a restaurant right on the bay called the lobster pot which we didn't visit but I've heard great things about it. After a tiring day though I was happy to return to the Cottage and relax in the luxurious bath with a large glass of red. Just be careful on the stairs after you've had a few :). Overall, The hayloft is gorgeous, the owner is welcoming and the location is heavenly. I would definitely go again.

It is a lovley serene place to stay....plenty if places to visit too, The host Andy certainly believes in looking after you with a Welsh welcoming pack which is certainly appreciated...
I would recommend a visit Mel Lynnon Mill, the only working Mill in Anglesey, only 10 minutes away...You will not be dissapointed with a stay st the Hayloft.

We stayed in Rose Cottage for a week (well we left a day early due to the forecast for heavy snow - in March!!)

We often struggle to find a cottage that meets our expectations and is dog-friendly. But Rose Cottage did just that. Spotlessly clean - you would never guess dogs had stayed and lovely cottage charm. A welcome basket was much appreciated as was the friendly greeting from Andy the owner.

With our toddler in tow, we were delighted with the baby-friendliness of the place - cot, high chair, booster seat, plug covers, bottles, cutlery & toys!

The rooms were fab - best nights sleep in a long time, comfy sofas, lovely bathroom and my favourite thing - the log burner - perfect for snuggling up in front of when the wind and rain came.

With a sea view and picnic table, garden was great and being totally enclosed, meant our pooch could potter round whilst we were inside, confident that he wasn't going anywhere.

The location is super - a quiet rural setting, but not completely isolated.

We had some car trouble whilst we were there and Andy and Emily were lovely - it makes a difference to stay somewhere where the owners are around, and not some anonymous company.

I would definitely recommend True Retreats as a great base for Anglesey and North Wales.

Absolutely perfect for the break we wanted. Such a peaceful spot not far from Church Bay with a view of the sea (although a little bit in the distance). The cottage itself was beautifully equipped and the open living space was excellent as once you had the fire going it was quite idyllic.Obviously the Hot Tub was great and you can relax in it in virtually any weather. It was just the two of us but the cottage was also obviously well equipped for families. Highly recommend.

Excellent, clean, great location, superb quality. Will definately return. The cottage certainly gives the illusion that you are in the middle of nowhere. Was surprisingly warm given the time of year but even eind rain and snow seemed great

Stayed at the Old Stable in Rhydwyn just after NYE for 4 nights. Had a brilliant time. Not only was the cottage beautifully decorated and kitted out (the kitchen was much nicer than my own at home!) but the peaceful setting and views out to the Irish sea were fab.

The welcome hamper was a VERY nice touch and am now completely obsessed with Welsh Toffee waffles and the owner Andy was really friendly and helpful during the booking process.

The icing on the cake was cosy wood burning stove AND the outdoor hot tub! Spent many an hour lazing outdoors despite it being January.

I would definitely recommend this to couples but also to families as the cottage was brilliantly kitted out to cater for both.
